→ Before lines are opened, place a cloth underneath them!

→ Components that come into contact with ATF must be cleaned IMMEDIATELY with water!

→ Take appropriate protective measures (e.g. use gloves, safety goggles, oil binding material)

→ Collect emerging ATF!

Information

The ATF cooler is integrated in the radiator as a closed system and cannot be replaced
separately.

→ Before lines are opened, place a cloth underneath them!

Information

Before re-installing the ATF lines, check the O-rings on the lines for damage and replace them if
necessary.

Coat O-rings on ATF lines with ATF.

Close off all lines and connections using suitable stoppers during removal.

Do not open the stoppers for the lines and connections until shortly before installation.

1. Disconnect ATF line at the union nuts -1 and 2- , disconnect it at the connection point and
close it off using a stopper.

2. Unscrew fastening screws -1- and disconnect ATF lines -2- from the cooler.

3. Unscrew fastening screws -arrows- .

4. Unscrew fastening screw -arrow- and pull ATF line -1 and 2- out of the ATF spin-on filter
housing.

5. Guide ATF lines -1- out over the halfshaft flange in -direction of arrow- and remove them.

INSTALLING LINE FOR ATF COOLING

Information

Before re-installing the ATF lines, check the O-rings on the lines for damage and replace them if
necessary.

Coat O-rings on ATF lines with ATF.

Close off all lines and connections using suitable stoppers during removal.

Do not open the stoppers for the lines and connections until shortly before installation.

1. Replace sealing rings on the ATF lines.

2. Guide in ATF lines -1- over the halfshaft flange in -direction of arrow- and position them in
the ATF spin-on filter housing.

3. Fit and tighten fastening screw -arrow- . Tightening torque 20 Nm (15 ftlb.)

WARNING: Hot fluid

Danger of scalding

→ Let the fluid cool down.

→ Wear personal protective gear.

CAUTION: Pointed or sharp objects

NOTE: Voltage peaks

Risk of damage to loads or to the control unit


→ Disconnect the battery before removing the component or control unit.

Information

Discharge the transmission electrostatically before removing control mechanism for transmission.

The sealing face of the control mechanism for transmission must not be damaged.

Only loosen the fastening screws with brightly colored screw heads, otherwise damage can occur.

Control mechanism for transmission is partly secured in the transmission.

If the control mechanism for transmission has to be pried off, get another mechanic to secure the
control mechanism for transmission to prevent it from falling out.

To pry off the control mechanism, two fastening screws can be screwed in slightly to prevent the
control unit from falling down.

Only set the control mechanism for transmission down with the screw head side facing
downwards.

Do not touch plug contacts in the connector for the transmission with your hands.

When prying out the tappets, do not use the sensors for support.

1. Carefully pull ATF suction filter to the rear in -direction of arrow- and remove it from the
control mechanism for transmission.

2. Turn electric plug connection in -direction of arrow- and disconnect plug connection.

3. Unscrew fastening screw -1- , turn connector housing in -direction of arrow- and pull it off.

4. Release fuse -1- in -direction of arrow- , press in release -2- and disconnect electric plug
connection.

6. Remove control mechanism for transmission -3- .

1. 6.1. Unscrew fastening screws -1- .

2. 6.2. Carefully detach ATF filter housing in -direction of arrow - and remove it from
the control mechanism for transmission.

3. 6.3. Carefully remove control mechanism for transmission -3- in -direction of


arrow- .

7. Remove ATF oil pipes.

1. 7.1. Disconnect ATF oil pipes -1 and 2- .

2. 7.2. Disconnect ATF oil pipes -3... 5- .

3. 7.3. Replace O-rings, coat with ATF and re-insert ATF oil pipes.

4. 7.4. Check that the ATF oil pipes are fitted correctly.

Information

Before installing the control mechanism for transmission, move shift forks and gear actuators into
center position.

Information

Do not touch plug contacts in the connector for the transmission with your hands.

When prying out the tappets, do not use the sensors for support.

Adjusting shift forks:

Every shift fork has 3 positions:

Gear engaged -G-

Idle speed -N- (center position)

Gear engaged -G-


Information

Before installing the control mechanism for transmission, move shift forks and gear actuators into
center position.

1. Adjust shift forks.

1. 1.1. Check shift positions of shift forks -1... 4- manually.

2. 1.2. Shift each of the four shift forks to each position once one after the other.

3. 1.3. Move all shift forks back to center position.

Adjusting gear actuators:

1. Dimension -a- = 33.5 mm

Information

1. Before installing the control mechanism for transmission, move shift forks and
gear actuators into center position.

2. Adjust gear actuators.

1. 2.1. Adjust the four gear actuators on the back of the control mechanism for
transmission to center position with the dimension -a- .

3. Align drivers -arrows- for the gear actuators so that they engage in the eyelets on the shift
forks during installation.

Information

After installing the control mechanism for transmission, code and calibrate it using PIWIS Tester II 9818
.

1. Check shift forks.

1. 1.1. Check all gear actuators by directing a torch through the opening between the
control mechanism for transmission and transmission housing.

2. 1.2. All four drivers for the gear actuators must engage in the related eyelets on the
shift forks. → Shift fork

2. Check that the ATF oil pipes -1... 5- are fitted securely.

3. Install control mechanism for transmission -3- .

1. 3.1. Pull ATF filter housing out slightly.

2. 3.2. Guide control mechanism for transmission -3- in -direction of arrow- until it is
fitted in the transmission.

3. 3.3. Check that the control mechanism for transmission is fitted correctly.

4. 3.4. Fit ATF filter housing on the control mechanism for transmission and check that
the oil pipes are fitted correctly.

5. 3.5. Fit and tighten fastening screws -1- . Tightening torque 10 Nm (7.5 ftlb.)

6. Guide in connector housing -2- and turn it in -direction of arrow- until you reach the bore for
the fastening screw. Then fit and tighten fastening screw -1- . Tightening torque 8 Nm (6
ftlb.)

7. Connect electric plug connection on connector housing and lock it by turning the lock in
-direction of arrow- .

2. Top up ATF. → 370235 CHECKING AND TOPPING UP ATF

3. Connect the battery. → Installing battery

4. Calibration after removing and installing the control mechanism:

Calibrate control mechanism for transmission using PIWIS Tester II 9818 .

1. 4.1. Overview -> PDK -> Maintenance/repairs -> Calibration after removing and
installing mechatronics -> [F12]

2. 4.2. Follow the instructions on PIWIS Tester II 9818 and press [F12]

3. 4.3. Start the calibration process by pressing [F8].

4. 4.4. Erase the fault memory.

After replacing control mechanism for transmission:

1. Program control mechanism for transmission.

Automatic programming.

1. 1.1. Use PIWIS Tester II 9818 to program control mechanism for transmission
automatically

2. 1.2. Overview -> PDK -> Programming -> Automatic programming -> [F12].

3. 1.3. Perform automatic programming

2. Teach engine immobilizer.
