PAPER 3 (1119/3) : Part 2 : Candidate A
Part 1 : Phase 2 ( 2 to 3 minutes)

Interlocutor : Now, I am going to ask you about your daily routine.

Interlocutor is to select one or more questions from list to ask the candidates.
Use candidates name’s throughout.

Interlocutor : What do you normally do after you wake up?

What is the first thing you do every day?

Example 1
Candidate : After I wake up, the first thing that I’ll do is to tidy my bed. This is because
it has been a practice for me since young, where my mother instills in me.

Example 2
Candidate : I will drink a glass of water and stretch my body. Sometimes, I feel numb
on my hands because I might sleep at a wrong position and a simple
stretching will ease all the numbs.

Example 3
Candidate : I will brush my teeth with a electronic tooth-brush my father bought me
from Singapore. It won’t bleed my gums like the conventional toothbrush
which I used before this.

Example 4
Candidate : The normal morning routine like brushing my teeth, washing my face and
easing myself in the washroom are the things that I usually do every day
after I wake up. However, this morning, I was in a rush, hence, I missed my
early morning snacks.

Example 5
Candidate : It is a must for me to answer nature’s call in the morning after I wake up,
especially after having a cup of my favourite milk with Milo. I dislike
visiting other washroom, especially the school’s toilet.
(answer nature’s call : To urinate or defecate, to go to the bathroom)

Example 6
Candidate : I will get ready for the day…and groom myself. I am very particular on my
appearance, especially my hair. I will apply gel or mousse to keep my hair
stylish. I will not get out of my house with my unkempt hair!

Example 7
Candidate : Normally, I do not have much time to do anything because I will be rushing
to get myself ready before my school bus arrives. If I have to answer that
question, I would say having breakfast is the first thing I would do after
waking up.

Exercise 8
Candidate : As usual, I will perform my early morning prayers first. After that, I will
perform my morning routines such as brushing my teeth and washing up.

Interlocutor : What do you usually do after coming back from school?

What do you do when you get home from school every day?

Example 1
Candidate : When I come back from school, the very first thing which I will do is to
have my lunch. I will be home at around 2.30 p.m. and my school breaks at
10.30 a.m. By the time I reach home, I normally experience hunger pangs
where it is necessary to fill my stomach with some food to soothe some of
the hunger reactions.

Example 2
Candidate : The first thing I will do is to complete my homework after changing my
clothes and taking my lunch. That is because I will usually have my futsal
game at 5.00 p.m. and my mother would not let me go if I could not
complete my homework.

Example 3
Candidate : [Giggle a little]…Seriously, I will check on my phone for messages and have
a game on my favourite strategy game before anything else. I
know that isn’t good but I can’t do anything without checking on my
phone first.
Example 4
Candidate : Re-energising is my top priority when I get home. I need to take a short nap
but sometimes, I oversleep up to two hours and I have difficulty of sleeping
at night. However, having a short nap in the afternoon is a must for me.

Example 5
Candidate : Nothing is more important than a cold cup of honey drink and get a light
snack before continuing my school work in the afternoon.

Example 6

back from their usual afternoon nap.

Interlocutor : How do you spend your leisure time?

What do you do when you have free time?

Candidate : During my leisure time, I will hang out with my friends at the nearby park
under the gazebo. Sometimes, sitting around and play online games are
something that make us relax after a hard day work in school.

English Panel SMK Mutiara

WP Labuan
Example 3

preference. Normally, I will go cycling with my good friends. You may join
me too as I am staying just a stone’s throw away from the school.
Example 4
Candidate : I rather stay and home and laze around. After a hectic week in school and all
the tuition classes, I need a break. I will listen to music with my earphones
or watch a movie in my living room.
Example 5
Candidate : I like cooking. Therefore, whenever I have free time, I will learn cooking
from my mother. She is really a good cook. I learn a lot of dishes from her.
Example 6
Candidate : To be honest, I spend a lot of time on my computer or mobile phone. During
my leisure time, I will try to level up my strategy game which I play with
my friends. That’s the only time where my parents would allow me to use
my gadgets freely.
Example 7
Candidate : House chores. I know it sounds silly but I am very particular on cleanliness.
I will tidy my books, room and even feather-dust the tables whenever I am
free. Now, I am planning to decorate my room with some simple
decorations so that I can study better at night.

Interlocutor : What do you do on weekends?

What do you do on Friday/Saturday/Sunday?

Example 1
Candidate : My weekends are filled with tuition commitments. I will be busy rushing to
tuition centres but seriously, I enjoy the time with my tuition friends
because I feel that we are improving every day through learning and
discussions.

English Panel SMK Mutiara

WP Labuan
Example 2
Candidate : During weekends, it would be family time. My parents will make it an effort
to be together, going out for meals and visiting malls. However, during the
“stay at home” restriction during the pandemic, we will still be together at
home, cooking and playing my X-box with my father.

Example 3
Candidate : Weekends….Let me see….I would walk my pet cat to the garden…..water my
plants in the garden…watch television….and study, I suppose. But seriously,
I have a sense of regret when I don’t help my mother doing the house
chores, which I think I should. [Giggle a little]

Example 4
Candidate : I precious my weekend the most. I can do whatever I want at home and
enjoy all the freedom I want. However, I make use of every hour I have to
revise my studies these days. I segregate my time accordingly to each
subject and now, I am doing my Form 4 revision during weekends. That is
what I do during weekends now.

Interlocutor : What is your favourite subject in school?

What do you like to learn in school? Maths or Science?

Example 1
Candidate : My favourite subject is English. I believe English can help me to
communicate well and feel confident. Teachers and friends praise me for
speaking fluently and one day, I hope to stand in front of a hall to give my
own talk show.
Example 2
Candidate : My main interest is in drawing and I like performing art. I plan to be an
artist when I grow up, having a painting gallery of my own.
Currently, I score pretty well in my Visual Art Education and I will
pursue my studies in Arts, most probably in Lim Kok Wing University.

English Panel SMK Mutiara

WP Labuan
Example 3
Candidate : I have massive interest in calculation. Hence, my favourite subject is
Mathematics. I have never scored anything less than 80 marks since Primary
One. I will do maths whenever I have time. Everytime when I get an answer
correct, it boosts my confidence to continue and explore more challenging
questions.

Example 4
Candidate : Science is my favourite subject in school. I find it interesting because on the
course of learning, I discover the wonders of the world and how things
happen. Science helps me to think strategically and I believe Science is the
only way to lead us to better life. Another thing, it is a fun experience to do
experiments in the lab.

Example 5
Candidate : If I have to choose…I will choose History. History enables us to understand
our culture and heritage. We can learn the success stories of the leaders and
the failures from others too. It is kind of a mirror to let us know the past.
For example, during the World War I and II, I learn that war brings massive
suffering to the people and should not be repeated.

Interlocutor : What is your favourite food?

What do you like to eat?
Example 1
Candidate : I like to eat my school’s assam laksa. The cucumber, onions, mint leaves and
fragrant pink flower called “bunga kantan” add flavour to it. I like to put a
lot of shrimp paste into it. Besides, it is cheap.

Example 2
Candidate : I like to eat “Satay” a lot, especially when they are placed over a charcoal
fire. I like to dip it into a kind of sauce made from peanuts and eat it with
the rice cake or popularly known as “ketupat”.

English Panel SMK Mutiara

WP Labuan
Example 3
Candidate : My favourite food is murtabak, an Indian-style pizza filled with minced
chicken, onions and eggs, which is fried over a hot metal plate. It is eaten
with dhal curry or other curries depending on your preference. Personally, I
like to eat with fish curry.

Example 4
Candidate : I like to eat nasi lemak. When it is served with tiny anchovy fish (ikan bilis),
spicy prawns, boiled eggs and cucumber, my mouth cannot stop drooling!
Besides, I like to eat with lots of sambal or curry gravy to make the food
more delightful.

* Interlocutor may use back-up prompts if necessary. Use the prompts below
[the oblique “/” is included to make it as a choice]

What can you say about this point? / Tell me about….. / Tell me about this point…..

Candidate A : [1 minute]
What the event was :
The event, which I had recently, was a family celebration on my youngest sister’s first
birthday. [Narrate an experience] She came to our life last June and her cute chubby
little baby face enlightens the whole family whenever she chuckles.

What you did there :

[Narrate an experience] I was there helping out the whole day, cooking and decorating
the birthday cake. Before that, I help my mother to get the groceries and the atmosphere
was filled with excitement.

If you enjoy yourself (why / why not?)

Of course I enjoyed myself. She was so adorable and everyone was in high spirits.
[Narrate an experience] Actually, I was quite moody that day because of some matters
from school but attending the celebration brightened my day again. We dressed her like
a princess and we took many photographs for remembrance.

Why family celebrations are important in Malaysia

Family celebrations are important because it cultivates good relationship and avoids any
earlier misunderstanding. Besides, it is a form of family tradition which creates
opportunities to have positive memories. [Narrate an experience] For example, during
that event, all our relatives gathered in the living room and shared our latest updates. It
was mesmerising and we had a lot of fun! We chatted until midnight even though the
birthday girl was fast asleep then.

Interlocutor : Thank you.

(Candidate B), what was the last celebration you had? Did you have a good
time? Why?

Candidate B : [20 seconds]

[Narrate an experience] My last celebration was attending my brother’s graduation day
with his friends. We threw a surprise party for him at he was totally in awe and close to
tears! However, at the cake cutting ceremony, his best friend smashed my brother’s face
into the cake! Though the situation went a little bit tense, we had a great time where my
brother forgave his best friend. I reckon the celebration as important because it created
a lasting memory in us.

[the oblique “/” is included to make it as a choice]
What can you say about this point? /Tell me about….. /Tell me about this point…..

Candidate B : [1 minute]
Who this person is :
The person that I admire most is my neighbour whom I called Mr Leong. [Narrate an
experience] He moves in approximately two months already. What impresses me the most
is his heart of gold and a fatherly figure to his family.

What this person looks like :

He is standing tall at 1.8 meter and has a clean-shaved face. His hair was brownish, though I
can see some white hair underneath. He has a well-built body and always has a friendly
smile. From far, I can see his dimples if he smiles. [Narrate an experience] When the
family first moved in, we were all in awe and surprise with the whole family’s appearance.
They look clean, tidy and well-mannered. They were the first to greet us, and that was what
my grandparents say, “Manners”.

Why you admire this person

He has a heart of gold, willing to help people regardless of races and at times, he has a very
high sense of humour. [Narrate an experience] He feeds the strays, he plays with his young
children in the garden, he assists elderly people across the road and he does cooking in the
kitchen with his wife where the aroma of their food sometimes makes us drool ! Within 2
months, our family gets to know him and ever since, we share a lot of common things
together. Ya, he knows how to make people laugh too!

If you think it is imp0rtant for people to have good role models (why / why not?)
Of course! Having a role model can inspire oneself to achieve success. Take me as an
example. [Narrate an experience] Mr. Leong’s successful life inspires me to improve my life
and my attitude towards him. His every action serves as a example to follow and you know
what is right and wrong to do. Emulating a person’s actions and values will serve as a guide
to achieve for bigger goals in life.

Interlocutor : Thank you.

(Candidate A), who do you admire? Why?

Candidate A : [20 seconds]

I admire my English teacher, Puan Noriah. She makes the class fun and easy to follow by
incorporating story telling and real life experience in it. She relates the issues of the
surroundings to her teaching. [Narrate an experience] There was once when she told us
about a story on how the rural children in Vietnam go to school. They have to swim across a
fast flowing river with their uniforms and walk about 5 kilometers before reaching their
school. That really inspires me to study hard thereafter because the story serves as an eye
opener to me that I have to appreciate whatever opportunities I have now. So, Puan Noriah
is indeed my role model.

What is that place:

An interesting place that I have been to is located in Penang. It is one of the largest and
finest Buddhist temples in South-East Asia called the Kek Lok Si Temple. Although this is
a Buddha temple, the structure and pagoda are impressive. [Narrate an experience] We
went there during Chinese New Year and the lighting ceremony was mindblowing.

Where is that place :

This place is located in a highly-populated residential area called Air Itam. This temple is
located on top of a hill an it can be visible from far. [Narrate an experience] Even
though the jam was quite horrible during that time, the experience was all worthwhile.

Why is that place so interesting

This place is very interesting because the temple features many gardens, ponds and
shrines. [Narrate an experience] I was in awe to see tortoises where I fed them with
fresh vegetables. Besides, we bought a lot of souvenirs which are so much cheaper
compared to other tourist attractions.

Would you recommend the place to your friends and family members? (why / why
not?)
Of course I would recommend! It is not only the temple itself that is recommended. At
the foot of the hill, there are so many food that will make you drool. [Narrate an
experience] My whole family had the best laksa and Char Koey Teow there.

Interlocutor : Thank you.

(Candidate B), Have you been to any interesting place? Where is that?

Yes, and the place is also in Penang too. The place is Penang Hill, the highest point on the

up was mesmerising and fascinating. It was about 40 minutes ride and once we are on
top, I was like being transported to another place with cool breeze and marvelous
panoramic view. I went to “The Habitat Penang Hill”and spent a night on Starlight

Candidate B :
What is your ambition :
I have always dreamt to be a teacher when I was a child. I fancied taking up a chalk or
marker pen and acted like a teacher in my room when I was a kid. [Narrate an
experience] I was being taught by a few great teachers in my school and ever since then,
I have set my mind to become a teacher.

How can you achieve it :

It is not easy to become a school teacher these days. One has to score at least 7As in the
SPM exam to give a shot into the teaching college. However, I am putting my nose on the
grindstone and ace my SPM to achieve my dreams. [Narrate an experience] At the
moment, I am studying 4 hours every day and at the same time, being active in sports.

Who inspire you to have this ambition

I remember a teacher in my primary school who inspired me to be a teacher. His name is
Mr. Leong and he is a very dedicated teacher. He will go the extra mile to help us and
conduct additional classes to make sure that we understand a chapter thoroughly.
[Narrate an experience] A year ago, I met him again and he could still remember me.
We had a chat at the coffee shop and he encouraged me to become a teacher. He retired
after then.

Why having an ambition is important?

I think having an ambition is important because it sets an objective and target for me to
achieve. It drives me to keep fighting and increases the will to success [Narrate an
experience] Last year, I was quite down due to the pandemic but with my strong-will to
achieve my ambition, I do not give up and keep pushing myself in my studies.

Interlocutor : Thank you.

(Candidate A), What is your ambition? Why?

Candidate A :
My ambition is to become a doctor. Looking at the pandemic and the sacrifice of the
frontliners, I want to contribute in fighting diseases and help those who are suffering
from illnesses. [Narrate an experience] I remembered very well when I was admitted
to the hospital 3 years ago for high fever and bacteria infection, the doctors and nurses
who attended me gave their full commitment to reduce my sufferings. That inspires me
to become a good doctor in future.

PAPER 3 (1119/3)

Part 1 : Discussion between candidates

Interlocutor : Now, talk to each other about the reasons why people shop online.
Back-up prompts to be used if necessary :
What do you think (candidate’s name)? What about this ? (pointing to
option)

Candidate A&B (approximately 2 minutes)

There are three approaches or methods to answer the discussion

between candidates.

METHOD 1 : One After Another Method

[Candidate A (3 points) + Candidate B (3 points)]
Candidate A : From the illustration, all the 6 pointers are relevant and I will talk about
the top half of the points. Firstly, shopping online does not have crowds!
That is important because during the pandemic, we are not supposed to
gather at common places to stop the spread of Covid 19. Besides, online
shopping follows the trend of teenagers where most products are trendy
and current. I find it time-saving whenever I purchase online because I do
not have to face with any traffic congestion, crowds of people and queuing
for payment.

Interlocutor : What do you think [candidate name]? What about this [pointing to
option]?

Candidate B : I agree with you. However, I have some other pointers to highlight. Online
shopping provides a wide variety of products to buy, from electronic
gadgets to groceries. I can basically buy anything from online, with better
price too. I used to look out for promotions, discount vouchers and special
rebates. Obviously, the price is cheaper than the market and physical
stores. Besides, it is so convenient. Whenever you forget to buy something,
you can return to the platform or application and purchase again.

METHOD 2 : Alternating Method

[Candidate A (1 point) + Candidate B (1 point) + Candidate A (1
point) + Candidate B (1 point) + Candidate A (1 point) +
Candidate B (1 point)]
Candidate A : Thanks, teacher. I’m going to go first. First reason why people shop online
is, it is time saving. You don’t have to go out and face the traffic. I have
tried it many times and the task can be fulfilled like a piece of cake.

English Panel SMK Mutiara

WP Labuan
Candidate B : Besides, the point on “no crowds” is also important, in my opinion. People
tend to have hassle free experience where customers these days would not
enjoy buying things in a long queue.

Candidate A : Yes, I agree with that. Other than that, goods and services online are of
better prices. That is because you can expect to have promotions every
week and after the discounts, the prices can be better than purchasing at
retail stores.

Candidate B : Another point that I would like to highlight is people will be exposed to
various things online, either locally or overseas. The wide variety options
will enable customers to make comparison and pick the best choice
specifically.

Candidate A : True. Furthermore, like I said before, convenient is something that people
are looking out for these days as you can easily buy things by clicking on a
few icons while staying at home.

Candidate B : Lastly, online shopping is following the trend and recommend items for
customers to decide what to purchase.

Method 3 : Free Style Method

(2 points)
Candidate A : Thank you teacher. I will start first. To me, people shop online mainly
because of the convenience and the time-saving factor. We do not have to
look for parking space, wait at long queues and sometimes, we have to go
to different locations to source for a few things. In online shopping, we
can choose multiple products from a store and order directly from them
easily.
(1 point)
Candidate B : Yes, you are right, I dislike crowds and I think no crowds is one of the
main factor why people shop online. During this pandemic, queuing or
gathering in large crowds are not advisable.
(1 point)
Candidate A : Besides, good and services are of better prices. The delivery is cheap and
there are lots of promotions and vouchers to collect for free. We can be
assured getting the best price when we shop online.
(2 points)
Candidate B : Personally, I think people shop online to these two reasons, the trend and
the wide variety it provides. Online shopping provides items from the latest
fashions and trends. You will be spoilt for choices with the wide variety
recommended and I believe with that, people has shifted to online shopping
gradually.

Part 2 : The MOST significant point

Interlocutor : Thank you. Now, you have about a minute to decide together which is the
most popular reason people shop online.

Candidate A : In my opinion, the better price factor is the puller [the main factor]. I feel
everyone hopes to get the best deal whenever we buy something and with
the application, we can compare price and usually, the prices offered on
online shopping is cheaper. This is because they do not have to pay rental
or hire people to look after the store. When I get the best deal, I am proud
to share with others my great experience and keep doing it.

Candidate B : What do you think about convenience? I agree with you on the price but I
think convenience is more attractive. People can avoid all the hassle and
get things which are not available in their own place. Besides, ordering is
safe and the delivery is fast. Hence, I opine that convenience is the most
popular reason people shop online.

You’ve been talking about why people shop online, now let’s hear your
opinion on this. In what ways does advertising on social media
influence people’s buying behaviour?

Select any of the following prompts as appropriate :

 What do you think?

 Do you agree?
 How about you?

Candidate A : Nowadays, many people uses social media such as Facebook, Twitter,
Instagram and Telegram in their daily life. Companies use this
opportunity to showcase their products and services in these platforms
via advertisement. Hence, people are made aware and it influences the
people’s buying behaviour.

Candidate B : I agree with that. Many companies use ambassadors like celebrities and
sportsperson to promote their products via social media. What we need
to do is to click on the link and we will be introduced to the product page
and order information. It is so convenient and it has influenced a lot of
people’s buying behaviour nowadays.

METHOD 1 : One After Another Method

[Candidate A (3 points) + Candidate B (3 points)]
Candidate A : From the illustration, there are 3 ways which I think is effective to
improve my results. First and foremost, I have to concentrate in all the
online classes conducted by the teachers. Since face to face classes are
limited, we need to make use of what we have. Then, I need to make
short notes from what the teachers have taught me for easy reference. I
will not feel shy to ask questions when I have queries.

Interlocutor : What do you think [candidate name]? What about this [pointing to

Candidate B : For me, in particular, I need to do more exercises to understand a topic

and must have the spirits to excel and improve in our studies. I hope to
have the spirits to challenge among my friends so that we can compete
among each other to do well in the coming SPM. However, we should not
study at the last minute and burn the midnight oil during the exam
period. We ought to study consistently.

Candidate A : After listening to [candidate B], I have to agree with him/her that doing
more exercises will help me improve in our exams. There are drawbacks
on online classes and sometimes, it restricts us from asking questions.
Besides, I can make short notes if I don’t understand a topic.

Candidate B : Yes, you are perfectly right. Whatever we learn, we need to practise on
papers, as the proverb says, “Practice Makes Perfect.” It doesn’t guarantee
us a good grade by understanding a topic. We need to do, practise and
correct our mistakes in order to understand better.

Select any of the following prompts as appropriate :

 Do you agree?
 How about you?

Candidate A : In my opinion, I think I definitely need a quiet place to study. I cannot

concentrate if the place is too noisy or full of distractions. I prefer to
study in my room, not in the library or in my class. I feel at ease
whenever I am in my own room and I can study better and longer
period there.
Candidate B : I agree with your opinion but I have something else to add. I need a place
which is cooling and not too humid to study. At noon, during the hot
days, I can’t concentrate because of the heat. My house does not
have an air-conditioner. Therefore, I will go to the library in the
afternoon. I think library is still the most conducive place to study.
If it is too noisy, I will put on my earphone. If the weather is not hot
or during the rainy days, I will study in my own room too.

[Candidate A (1 point) + Candidate B (1 point) + Candidate A (1

Candidate B (1 point)]
Candidate A : Thank you, teacher. The most apparent way to protect the environment, in
my frank opinion, is to practise 3R, which is reduce, reuse and recycle.
After the implementation of 3R a decade ago, we have managed to reduce
waste in the landfills but not everyone is practising them yet. I think we
should create more awareness on 3R to all generations.

Candidate B : Yes, and now, we should actively practise another “R”, which is reject.
Whenever we are offered a plastic bag, we should refuse to take it and
reject the use of plastics. Some of the instances are to say “No” to plastic
straws and use only paper cups and plates.

Candidate A : Trees also play a part in protecting the environment. The government
should actively initiate the efforts of reforestation due to indiscriminate
logging.

Candidate B : Talking about saving the environment, each individual should play their
part too. We should bring our own food container to school and recycle
shopping bags to hypermarkets. We should “walk the talk” and set it as a
habit for others to follow.

Candidate A : That’s a good phrase..”walk the talk”. We should reduce the number of
cars on the road which emit carbon dioxide and fumes that harms the
environment by car pooling or walking to schools or work.

Candidate B : And lastly, we should not be half-hearted in protecting the environment.

Campaigns should be a continuous effort to create awareness among
people to save the world as the world belongs to everyone.

Interlocutor : Thank you. Now, you have about a minute to decide together which is the

Candidate A : In my opinion, plastics waste is the main culprit in destroying the

environment because they are non-biodegradable. Therefore, the most
effective way is to reduce the use of plastics and practise 3R.

Candidate B : What do you think about carbon emission to the environment? Not only
plastic that we should be getting rid of, we should mitigate the issue on
carbon emission. We should reduce cars on the road and carpool or take
more of the public transportation.

corporations and governments of different countries to improve the
current patterns of production and consumption. Besides, we need to live
moderately so that we are able to give a better life to our next generation.

Candidate B : I agree with you 100%. We cannot be pessimistic and think that global
warming and environment issues are irreversible. Whatever we have done,
we have to correct them now. Stop pollution and play our part for the

(2 points)
Candidate A : Nothing is more important than taking the balance food and having a
regime of workout. There are seven basic components of food which we
should eat to become healthy, namely carbohydrate, protein, fat, vitamins,
fibre, water and minerals. All these food have to be taken in the correct
proportions. Besides, having a workout plan is vital. For me, I have a
schedule to exercise at least 3 times a week.

(1 point)
Candidate B : Yes, exercise is crucial and I go swimming every weekend. For me, staying
active is very important to lead a healthy life. I like to wake up with a
morning walk and stretching. During the evening, I will never miss my
visit to the park, to take sips of fresh air and bathing the late sunshine. Do
you know our skin needs sunlight to produce vitamin D?

(1 point)
Candidate A : Yes, you are right. As for me, taking supplement is also important such as
fish oil, multivitamins and minerals. Fish oil is rich in Omega 3 which
helps to prevent heart diseases. On the other hand, vitamins and minerals
support our body by repairing and building healthy cells in our body.

(2 points)
Candidate B : Personally, I think everyone should have sufficient sleep. Nowadays, due to
busy schedule and habit of sleeping late, a lot of people are deprived from
quality sleep, which can be harmful over the long run. Insomnia can lead to
anxiety disorder and depression. In addition, visiting the clinics or hospitals
to have the annual hospital checkup is compulsory for those who started
working.

Interlocutor : Thank you. Now, you have about a minute to decide together which is the

Candidate A : In my opinion, I staunchly believe that taking a balance diet is the most
effective way to lead a healthy life. There is a famous saying of, “We are
what we eat”. The food we eat literally becomes who we are and
influences our physical, mental and emotional. If we eat healthily, our
body will have sufficient antibodies to fight whatever sickness and hinder
any chronic diseases.

Candidate B : What do you think about exercising and workout? I opine that having a
good workout will keep us as fit as a fiddle and flush out all the toxic from
our body. Many researches have been conducted about the benefits of
exercising and a good workout will keep all the diseases at bay.

You’ve been talking about how to lead a healthy life, now let’s hear your
opinion on this. Awareness on health for teenagers is not really
important because they are active, fit and young. Do you agree?

Select any of the following prompts as appropriate :

 What do you think?

 Do you agree?
 How about you?
Candidate A : It is indeed true when we see a lot of teenagers eat indiscriminately. They think
that it is fine for them since they are young and fit. However, the cases on obesity
is on the rise and they do not know that sleeping late at night, eating
indiscriminately and skipping exercises may lead them to various diseases such as
heart attack, mental disorder and failure of organs at a young age. Awareness on
health should be cultivated early as “Prevention is better than cure”.

Candidate B : I agree with you, Candidate A. I understand that a lot of teenagers are taking for
granted on their health as they think that they are young. One example is that they
like to drink sweet soda drinks which is a killer as it will lead to exhaustion and
diabetes in the long term. I have witnessed a lot of cases where teenagers are
admitted to hospitals in their 30s for chronic diseases and that should not be
happening. Hence, awareness on health is important as “An apple a day keeps the
