2.Compare the pH of the solutions that you measured with the pH-meter with calculated and target
pH. Discuss why such difference occurred and identify factors affecting it.
3.How do you determine pKa of a chemical compound? Explain
Jawaban:
1.

tris maelate 8.06 8.20 25 11.6 8.20
Tris -HCl 8.06 8.50 25 14.7 7.50
2. There are many factors that affect the reading from the pH-meter like the value from the pH-meter
is either higher or lower than the target and calculated value. The difference in result can be cause by
the purity of the compound itself which makes the buffer more acidic or more basic. Next is the
temperature in which the buffer solution is made. The temperature of the room may affect the
production of the buffer solution.
3. To find the pKa first we must determine which one is the proton donor. When we already know it
then we must calculate the concentration of the hydrogen ions that is being use. To find the
n
concentration of the hydrogen ions we use the formula c= in which n is the number of moles of the
v
compound and v is the volume. When we found out the concentration then we use the formula
Ka=¿ ¿ where A is the concentration of the conjugate base and HA is the weak acid. When we found
the Ka then we use the logarithm to find the pKa by using pKa=−log Ka . Hence, this how you find
the pKa of a chemical compound.
