Competency (S4FE – IIIf-g-4)
I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson the pupils should be able to;

a. Observe how heat is transferred through solid materials.

b. Describe how heat travel.
c. Show proper discipline in performing activities.

“PULL or PUSH”
- The teacher will distribute strips of paper to the pupils with
names of different materials that attracts or do not attract
magnet and will let them complete the following chart.

A. Materials that attract B. Materials do not attract

with magnet to magnet
The Materials given are the following;
 Metal spoon
 Pot holder
 Ceramic mug
 Metal fork
 Plastic spoon

A. Developmental 1. Engagement
Activities A. The teacher will ask the following questions;
1. Do you help your mother in the kitchen ?
2. Why do some objects get hot easily ?

B. Show a pictures of cooking utensils

Ask:
1. Why do cooking utensils made of metals?
2. How do you think heat transferred from one object to
another?
3. Why do cooking utensils have handles made of wood or
plastic?

B. Processing the
Activities 2. Exploration
ACTIVITY 1 ;( Set-up A)
 What happen to the spoon if we exposed it under the sun
after 5 minutes?

DISCUSSION

A. Mastery of Concept

Say; Heat is a form of energy associated with the motion

of particles. It transfers between bodies of different
temperature. The transfer of heat through solid materials
is called CONDUCTION.

CONDUCTION is the heat through an object or

substance or from a substance to another by direct
contact

There are materials that allow heat to flow through

easily. We call them conductors. Metals are good
conductors. that’s why we use them as cooking utensils
because heat moves fast through the metal pan to the
food. There are materials through which heat passes
slowly or not all. We call these insulators. Some
insulators are wood, plastic and ceramic. And most of
them were used as cooking utensils handle.

C. Application
1. Setting of standards
 The teacher will set up the classroom in a way that pupils
can move and work freely.
A. The teacher will have the two (2) groups for the
activity.
B. The teacher will give the following materials to be
utilized in the activity.
C. The teacher will give the task to follow for each group
to work on.

GROUP 1

The teacher will give the group at least 1 half sheet of manila
paper where they can write their observations and answer to the
different guide question.
.What happened to the pulverized crayons when it was exposed
to heat?
2. Why do you think it melted?
3. If we continue to expose the spoon to the flame, what do you
think will happen to its handle?

GROUP 2

The teacher will give the following materials to be utilized in the

activity, mug, metal spoon and hot water .And let them write their
observation and answer on the sheet of manila paper.

1. What happened to the exposed end of the spoon after five

minutes?
2. What did you notice about the outside surface of the mug
when we touched it?

V.GENERALIZATION 1. What have you learned?

2. How is heat transferred from one object to another?
3. How does heat travel by conduction?

V. EVALUATION DIRECTION: Encircle the letter of the correct answer.

1. What is the direction of heat transfer?

a. From hot to cold c. from cold to hot
b. From bottom to top d. from side to side
2. How is heat transferred in solid materials?
a.Through convection c. through conduction
b. through radiation d. through vacuum
3. Which is good conductor?
a. metal c. ceramic
b. wood d. plastic
4. Which is good insulator?
a. metal spoon c. plastic ruler

5. Why do we need to use a pot holder when we are removing

hot casseroles or any hot cooking wares out of the stoves?
VII- ASSIGNMENT Give at least 5 materials you can see at home that is good
conductors of heat.
