(a) Adam plants vegetable on a piece of land that is in right-angled triangle shape. Given the longest length of
the land is y metre. Two other lengths of the land are respectively x metre and (2x – 1) metre. He uses thorn
wire of length 40 metre to fence the land. Find the length, in metre, for each side of the land.
(b) A piece of wire, 52 cm in length is cut into two different lengths. Each part of the wire is bent to form a
rectangle as shown in the diagram.
If the sum of the area for both squares is 89 cm2, find the values of x and of y.
