The following hardware specifications define the minimum configuration for the Database
Server, Background Server and Client workstations recommended by Amtech and Futura
Services. To insure Futura Services’ ability to support an Imaginera installation, any deviation
from the following requirements should be discussed, in detail, with Amtech and Futura
Services. These requirements are based on technology available on the date that this
document was published and are subject to change without notice. Amtech and Futura
Services offer no guarantee that the hardware listed has been tested with Imaginera Software.
These requirements are based on performance data collected from Amtech / Futura Services
test configurations.
Note: The Database Server should be a dedicated server and not the domain controller.
One or more Windows based client workstations for user application processing.
User Licensing
Per Seat
With Per Seat mode, a Client Access License applies to a specific client computer (that is, a
"seat"). Using this option, an unlimited number of client computers may access the Server
Software, provided that each client computer has its own dedicated Client Access License.
Once a Client Computer has been licensed in this mode, it has permission to access the
services of any server running the Server Software. Once you choose the Per Seat mode, your
choice is permanent.
Please note that a Client Access License is required whether you use client software
supplied by Microsoft or software from a third-party vendor to utilize the services of Server
Software. For example, if the computer or workstation is running Windows for Workgroups,
Windows NT Workstation, or any of the other client software that Windows NT Server
supports, a separate Client Access License for Windows NT Server is required.
Per Server
You may elect to use Microsoft SQL Server, Windows Server, SNA Server, or Microsoft
Exchange Server in "Per Server" mode. With Per Server licensing, a Client Access License
is dedicated for use with a particular server. This alternative allows concurrent-use
licensing; that is, the number of computers or workstations entitled to use a specific server at
any point in time is equal to the number of Client Access Licenses that have been
designated for use with that specific server. Under this option, you designate the number of
Client Access Licenses that apply to this server during setup of the Server Software.
The forest root domain contains the Enterprise Admins and Schema Admins groups. These
administrator groups are used to manage forest-level operations, such as the addition and
removal of domains and changes to the schema.
Domain Controllers
A minimum of two domain controllers is needed to provide fault tolerance for a domain.
Domain controllers can be placed in physical locations to provide local authentication.
Additional domain controllers may be required based on user authentication and application
requirements.
Stand-Alone Server
A stand-alone server is a server that doesn’t run Active Directory services.

Terminal Server Licensing is the client license management service for the operating systems
in the Windows Server 2003 family. The Terminal Server Licensing service works with Terminal
Server to provide, catalog, and enforce license policy among Terminal Server clients.
