CHAPTER 2
METHODOLOGY
This chapter presents the methods used by the researcher in designing, where
the study conducted, the respondents, the instruments used, the validation of the
instruments, the reliability of the questionnaire, the data gathering procedure, the data
processing, and the statistical tools used to analyze and interpret the gathered data are
presented in designing the Self-Sustaining Agricultural and Modular Housing
Community which aims to provide a community that for farmers and nuclear families.
These will allow the researcher to define and describe the activities to be undertaken
throughout the study.
Research Design
The study will be using the descriptive-correlational design. The Descriptive
Correlational Design The aim of descriptive correlational research is to describe the
relationship among variables rather than to infer cause and effect relationships.
Descriptive correlational studies are useful for describing how one phenomenon is
related to another in situations where the researcher has no control over the
independent variables, the variables that are believed to cause or influence the
dependent or outcome variable. (Lappe, 2000). The purpose of this study is to
determine what variables does a self-sustaining agricultural and modular housing
community possess in terms of building standards and site-development plans.
Research Locale
This study will be conducted in Roxas City, Capiz, particularly in Brgy. Lanot,
Roxas City, Capiz (provide coordinates). The location of the site has a large area of

rice fields, and the entirety of the barangay is situated in that area. Thus, the site is a
strategic place for the study to be conducted because of its close proximity to rice
fields and the surrounding families and also the on-going development of the Roxas
Memorial Provincial Hospital, therefore, making it an excellent site for the proposed
Agricultural and Modular Housing Community.
Respondents
The respondents of the study will be the farmers, nuclear families and the
residents around the area of Brgy. Lanot, Roxas City, Capiz where the study will be
conducted.
Sampling
The study will be using a stratified sampling method that will be suitable for
the selection of a specific sample from a population. In this research, it will be
focused primarily on the farmers and nuclear families in Brgy. Lanot, Roxas City,
Capiz.
In this method, the entire heterogeneous population is divided in to a number
of homogeneous groups, usually known as Strata, each of these groups is
homogeneous within itself, and then units are sampled at random from each of these
stratums. The sample size in each stratum varies according to the relative importance
of the stratum in the population. The technique of the drawing this stratified sample is
known as Stratified Sampling (Singh & Masuku, 2014).
Research Instrument
The research instruments to be used in this study will be relevant data from the
site that will be obtained through Interview, Questionnaire, and Site Visitation. Also,

the researcher used supplemental information from the World Wide Web, books,
magazines, and, scholarly journals relevant to the study.
Data-Gathering Procedure
The relevant data necessary for this study will be gathered through site
visitations, interviews with local farmers, and, nuclear families; and environmental
site analysis, and questionnaires. The researcher will also be gathering data from
local agencies, government, and private offices providing information and materials to
aid the researcher further understand the necessary design solutions throughout the
study.
Design Criteria
The following design criteria will be used to guide the research to properly
establish the design solution, namely: Site Selection (accessibility, acceptability,
adoptability, existing structures and utilities, security, size); Environmental Site
Analysis (slope, soil patterns, vegetation, wildlife, geology, surface/subsurface water
and climate); Building Standards (Proper Occupancy, PWD accessibility, Standard
Dimensions); and Site Development Plan (Accessibility, Economic Impact, Mobility).
Rating from 5 – Highly Acceptable, 4 – Moderately Acceptable, 3 – Acceptable, 2 –
Slightly Acceptable, 1 – Not Acceptable.
The Environmental Site analysis will be conducted through interview site
observation.
Statistical Tools

The respondents derived from a stratified sampling method will be given a
survey questionnaire for us to obtain necessary data needed for the study. The
following statistical tools were used: Frequency, Mean, and, Standard Deviation.
Frequency. It is how many times does a certain respondent fall into a specific
type of group or characteristic or category.
Mean. Implies average and it is the sum of a set of data divided by the number
of data. Mean can prove to be an effective tool when comparing different sets of data.
In this study, the mean will determine whether the study will be feasible or suitable
for the selected site along with the aforementioned design criteria
Standard Deviation. Standard Deviation is a measure which shows how

used to determine how far or close the results of the mean are to the feasibility or
suitability of the agricultural and modular housing community to its beneficiaries.
