A guide to the applicability of the Australian Design Rules (ADRs) in force for L – Category
Vehicles – Two and Three Wheeled Vehicles
2. The Table shows the national road vehicle standards (Australian Design Rules, listed as ADR No.) currently in force for
new model vehicles and the vehicle categories to which they are applicable, as at the date this Applicability Summary
is published (see footer). This table provides a quick overview to:
a. the Date on which each of the national road vehicle standards have or will come into force and the Vehicle
Categories to which they will be applicable. New standards yet to commence are highlighted light green;
b. applicable earlier revisions of the national standards that may be accepted as equivalent to the standards in force
for new model vehicles (refer to each relevant standard’s list of acceptable prior rules); and
c. the national road vehicle standards that have been superseded by other standards with a different number series
(light yellow highlighted) or withdrawn with no direct replacement (light red highlighted).
6. In addition to the above national standards, ADR – Harmonisation, facilitates the automatic acceptance of the latest
version of UN regulations that have been adopted as alternative standards within the ADRs and have been ‘applied’
by Australia under the UN 1958 Agreement. The ADR can be viewed here -
