ENTRY REQUIREMENTS OF COURSES TO
NANYANG POLYTECHNIC

To be eligible for consideration for admission to the various courses in Nanyang Polytechnic, applicants must obtain 26 points
or better for the net ELR2B2 aggregate score (i.e. English Language, 2 relevant subjects and best 2 other subjects,
including CCA Bonus Points) and meet the minimum entry requirements as shown in the table of courses in this section.
CCA cannot be used to meet the minimum entry requirements.

The “Net ELR2B2 Range for Previous (2023) JAE” in the table below shows the net ELR2B2 aggregate of the highest to
lowest ranked students who were admitted to these courses through the 2023 Joint Admissions Exercise (JAE).
These aggregate scores are meant as a reference for applicants applying to these courses, and do not constitute the
admission scores for subsequent admission exercises. The net ELR2B2 aggregate scores for the courses are not pre-
determined by MOE or polytechnics before posting. The eventual course aggregate scores for the 2024 JAE may vary from

② As the delivery of direct patient care is a requisite of healthcare professions, all applicants must pass a medical
examination and be certified to have the following abilities to perform patient care activities in a safe and effective
manner:

• Mental-Cognitive ability (including interpersonal-communication ability and behavioural stability) to:


a) provide safe care to populations, including safety to self
b) demonstrate emotional-behavioural stability to function under the stress and pressure when performing nursing
care on patients
c) remain calm when being observed by instructors and other health care personnel during clinical practice
attachments.

• Physical ability to:


a) move around in the clinical environment, walk/stand, bend, reach, lift climb, push and pull, carry objects
b) perform patient transfers and complex sequences of hand-eye coordination.

• Auditory ability to hear:


a) faint body sounds
b) auditory alarms
c) normal speaking level sounds (i.e. blood pressure sounds, monitors, call bells and person-to-person report).

• Visual ability to:


a) detect changes in physical appearance, colour and contour
b) read accurately medication/ drug labels, markings on syringes and manometers, written and electronic
communication.
The above required abilities are stipulated in consultation with Singapore Nursing Board to ensure nursing students are
fit to practise when they apply for registration/ enrolment upon graduation from nursing programme.
③ Candidates will have to take and pass a manual dexterity test (MDT) as the MDT is required under industry standards
to assess the candidate’s fine motor skills crucial for handling of specialized instruments for effective and safe delivery
of dental treatment.
④ Applicants with severe colour vision deficiency may encounter difficulties in some modules with high reliance on colour
usage. Such candidates may be required to attend an interview to determine their suitability for admission to the course.

b) perform patient transfers and complex sequences of hand-eye coordination.

c) normal speaking level sounds (i.e. blood pressure sounds, monitors, call bells and person-to-person report).
• Visual ability to:

The above required abilities are stipulated in consultation with Singapore Nursing Board to ensure nursing students are
fit to practise when they apply for registration/ enrolment upon graduation from nursing programme.

⑦ Applicants with severe physical impairments applying for N83 (Diploma in Optometry) may encounter difficulties

⑧ Applicants applying for N95 (Diploma in Tamil Studies with Early Education) and N96 (Diploma in Early Childhood
Development & Education) have to pass a pre-admission medical examination. In addition, to ensure the well-being
and safety of children, the Early Childhood Development Agency (ECDA) requires all pre-school staff to be certified
medically fit to work with young children. More details on the medical examination can be found at bit.ly/NIECmedical.

Applicants admitted to N95 (Diploma in Tamil Studies with Early Education) or N96 (Diploma in Early Childhood
Development & Education) who are keen to register to be certified by the Early Childhood Development Agency
(ECDA) as an L2 English Language Preschool Teacher (deployable to teach up to kindergarten level) after graduation
must obtain a minimum of B4 in their GCE O-Level English Language (EL) or an English Language Acceptable
Alternative (ELAA). Applicants who do not meet this EL requirement would be given up to 2 years from their registration
as preschool teachers to do so. The diploma is awarded by the National Institute of Early Childhood Development in
collaboration with Ngee Ann Polytechnic.

⑨ N95 (Diploma in Tamil Studies with Early Education) and N70 (Diploma in Chinese Studies)
The Diploma in Tamil Studies with Early Education will allow graduates to teach in both Ministry of Education (MOE)
primary schools as well as the Early Childhood sector – subject to additional industry-specific requirements. Applicants
admitted to the Diploma in Chinese Studies who wish to teach in MOE primary schools should choose the Education
specialisation option (at the end of Year 1).
Applicants who are keen on a teaching career with the Ministry of Education (MOE) are encouraged to apply under a
separate exercise administered by MOE. For more information, please visit www.moe.gov.sg/careers/become-
teachers. Applicants should apply directly to MOE at the above MOE teach website and click on the link 'Teacher
Training Programmes' to apply online. Short-listed candidates will be invited for an interview to determine their eligibility
for MOE Teacher Training Scheme. Selected candidates for the Teacher Training Scheme must pass a medical

To be eligible for consideration for admission to the various courses in Republic Polytechnic, applicants must obtain 26 points
or better for the net ELR2B2 aggregate score (i.e. English Language, 2 relevant subjects and best 2 other subjects,
including CCA Bonus Points) and meet the minimum entry requirements as shown in the table of courses in this section.
CCA cannot be used in meeting the minimum entry requirements.

The “Net ELR2B2 Range for Previous (2023) JAE” in the table below shows the net ELR2B2 aggregate of the highest to
lowest ranked students who were admitted to these courses in the 2023 Joint Admissions Exercise (JAE). These
aggregate scores are meant as a reference for applicants applying to these courses, and do not constitute the admission
scores for subsequent admission exercises. The net ELR2B2 aggregate scores for the courses are not pre-determined by
MOE or polytechnics before posting. The eventual course aggregate scores for the 2024 JAE may vary from previous years,
depending on students’ GCE O-Level examination results and their course choices during the JAE.

 Applicants applying for the Diploma in Early Childhood Development & Education [T68] have to pass a pre-admission
medical examination to enter the course. In addition, to ensure the well-being and safety of children, the Early Childhood
Development Agency (ECDA) requires all pre-school staff to be certified medically fit to work with young children. More

Applicants admitted to the Diploma in Early Childhood Development & Education [T68] and are keen to register to be
certified by the Early Childhood Development Agency (ECDA) as an L2 English Language Preschool Teacher (deployable
to teach up to kindergarten level) after graduation must obtain a minimum of B4 in their GCE O-Level English
Language (EL1) or an English Language Acceptable Alternatives (ELAA). Applicants who do not meet the English
Language requirement would be given up to 2 years from their registration as pre-school teachers to do so. This diploma
is awarded by the National Institute of Early Childhood Development in collaboration with Temasek Polytechnic.

 Students opting for any courses in the common programme must ensure that they satisfy the requirements as stated in
the footnotes under the respective courses.

 Applicants with physical impairment or are physically dependent on mobility equipment may have difficulties meeting the
course requirements and expectations. Interested applicants with physical impairment are highly encouraged to contact

INSTITUTE OF TECHNICAL EDUCATION

To be eligible for consideration for admission to the 2-year Higher Nitec courses under JAE, applicants must have the minimum
results as shown in the table of courses for this section and have sat for at least 5 GCE O-Level subjects over a maximum of 2
years. CCA cannot be used to meet the minimum entry requirements.
The “Net Aggregate Range for Previous (2023) JAE” in the table below shows the net aggregate scores of the highest to
lowest ranked students who were admitted to these courses in the 2023 Joint Admissions Exercise (JAE). These
aggregate scores are meant as a reference for applicants applying to these courses, and do not constitute the admission scores
for subsequent admission exercises. The net aggregate scores for the courses are not pre-determined by MOE or ITE before
posting. The eventual course aggregate scores for the 2024 JAE may vary from previous years, depending on students’ GCE
O-Level examination results and their course choices during the JAE.

FITNESS TO PRACTICE ADVISORY FOR NURSING STUDENTS

As the delivery of direct patient care is a requisite of healthcare professions, all applicants must pass a medical examination
and be certified to have the following abilities to perform patient care activities in a safe and effective manner:

1) Mental-Cognitive ability (interpersonal-communication ability and behavioural stability) to:


(a) provide safe care to populations, including safety to self
(b) demonstrate emotional-behavioural stability to function under the stress and pressure when performing nursing
care on patients
(c) being observed by instructors and other health care personnel during clinical practice attachments.

2) Physical ability to:


(a) move around in the clinical environment, walk/stand, bend, reach, lift climb, push and pull, carry objects
(b) perform patient transfers and complex sequences of hand-eye coordination.

3) Auditory ability to:


(a) hear faint body sounds
(b) auditory alarms
(c) normal speaking level sounds (i.e. blood pressure sounds, monitors, call bells and person-to-person report).

4) Visual ability to:


(a) detect changes in physical appearance, colour and contour
(b) read medication/ drug labels, syringes, manometers, written and electronic communication accurately.

The above required abilities are stipulated in consultation with Singapore Nursing Board to ensure nursing students are fit
to practise when they apply for enrolment upon graduation from the nursing programme.

④ Eyecare practitioners are required to provide care, consultation and management of a patient’s vision through eye tests and
effective communication. Therefore good interpersonal skills and good psychomotor ability is required. All applicants must
possess the following abilities to perform direct eyecare on clients safely and effectively:
• Mental-Cognitive ability, including interpersonal-communication, emotional-behavioural stability to function under
stressful work environment, and provide safe eyecare to clients.
• Physical ability to move around in a clinical/retail environment, including standing during service delivery.
• Auditory ability to communicate with patients under normal speaking level sounds.
• Visual ability to read small print on ophthalmic trial lenses and digital display on instruments.
