    Bekaert metallic coatings (end coated)

    - Bezinal 2000 still outperforms Bezinal in salt spray ….

    Note all these values (from ‘active corrosion flyer’) are conservative, minimum values

    Weldability

    Bezinal and Bezinal 2000 coated wires have a stronger performance in welding
    compared to Zinc coated wires

    - FeZn intermetallic layers for Zinc coatings have melting temperatures


    lower than 800°C < Welding temperatures : Susceptible to corrosion

    - FeAl3 and Fe2Al5 intermetallic layers of Bezinal and Bezinal 2000 have
    melting points higher than 1150°C > Welding temperatures…. : Not
    susceptible to corrosion

    Bending

    - Bending of coating can lead to cracks.


    ▪ Zinc coatings have a very hard and brittle intermetallic layer or FeZn compounds (~ 250 µVickers)
    compared to Bezinal and Bezinal 2000 coatings.
    ▪ Optical microscopy of the bends shows cracks in the intermetallic layers of Zinc after bending
    ▪ These cracks in the alloy layer can in some cases propagate to the surface and lead to cracking and
    flaking at the top surface

    - For the End Coated products Bezinal 2000 results in the best formability.

    - In long term exposures of 15-20 years in contact with weathering and soil Bezinal coated welded
    gabions from the field are strongly outperforming Zinc coated gabions.
