Rayon de Soleil Shawlette

About
During the upcoming winter months, we sure are going to miss the sun’s light and warmth.
Hopefully this shawlette can give you some of that light back! The Rayon de Soleil Shawlette (French
for “Sunlight”) is a graceful and light shawlette that can be knit to any size you wish! Wrap it around
your neck or your shoulders to keep you company while you wait for Spring to return! (And wear it
during the warmer months to soak in all the sun!)
The shawlette is knit in a series of alternating sections of stockinette stitch and eyelet garter
rows, top to bottom, increases on the border shaping it into a crescent form. To top it off, a picot bind off
is used.

Gauge: 20sts per 4 inches


Finished dimensions: length 32”, depth 12”

Materials
Yarn: 170 yards of main color, 130 of contrast color, both fingering weight were used for the shawlette
in this patten .
Needle: Size 5 (3.75mm) straight needles
Other: place markers

Knitting Abbreviations
k - knit pm - place marker
p -purl sm - slip marker
kyok - knit, yarn over, knit into same stitch (2st k2tog - knit two together
increase) MC - main color
yo - yarn over (1st increase) CC - contrast color

Set up

GARTER TAB CAST ON


In MC, cast on 3 sts. Knit 7 rows. Turn work 90 degrees and pick up 3sts. Turn work 90 degrees again
and pick up 3sts (9 sts).

[SET UP SECTION]
Continuing in MC
Row 1 (WS): k3, pm, yo, p3, yo, pm, k3 (11 sts)
Row 2 (RS): k3, sm, kyok, k until 1 st before marker,
kyok, sm, k3 (15 sts)
Row 3: k3, sm, yo, p until marker, yo, sm, k3 (17 sts)
Row 4: k3, sm, kyok, k until 1 st before marker, kyok,
sm, k3 (21 sts)

Repeat rows 3 and 4 for 1 1/2 inches, ending on row 3.

[SECTION CC]
Row 1 (RS): k3, sm, kyok, k until 1 st before marker,
kyok, sm, k3
Row 2 (WS): k3, sm, yo, k until marker, yo, sm, k3
Row 3: as row 1
Row 4: as row 2
Row 5: k3, sm, kyok, *k2tog, yo* rep until 2 sts before
marker, k1, kyok, sm, k3
Row 6: as row 2
Row 7: as row 1
Row 8 (WS): as row 2

[SECTION MC]
Row 1 (RS): k3, sm, kyok, k until 1 st before marker,
kyok, sm, k3
Row 2 (WS): k3, sm, yo, p until marker, yo, sm, k3

Rep rows 1 and 2 six more times (12 rows), ending on row 2.

Repeat sections CC and MC for as long as you like. End on a [section CC] when you are ready for the
last section.

[FINISHING SECTION]
In MC:
Row 1 (RS): k3, sm, kyok, k until 1 st before marker, kyok, sm, k3
Row 2: k3, sm, yo, k until marker, yo, sm, k3
In CC:

Row 1: k3, sm, kyok, k until 1 st before marker,
kyok, sm, k3
Row 2: k3, sm, yo, k until marker, yo, sm, k3
Row 3: as row 1
Row 4: as row 2.

Bind off using picot bind off.

Picot bind-off: Cast on two sts using cable cast


on, and bind off four sts. Transfer the one stitch
remaining on the right needle onto the left
needle. Cast on two sts again and rep until all
stitches are bound off.
