CLC 12 - Final Capstone Proposal and Reflection

Name: Liya Klein

Topic: Architecture
Focus Area: Product Focus
Inquiry Question: What is the process of designing/creating a model building?
Presentation Method: PowerPoint + tour of digital model
Presentation Time & Date: Wednesday June 5, 2024 (11:25 AM)

1) Capstone Project Summary:

In the box below, please type out a 200 – 300-word summary highlighting the key points and
information that you plan to present during your Capstone Project presentation.

-For my first point in my capstone presentation, I will show the screenshots of my practice/relearning of
how to use AutoCAD (since it had been over a year since I used it).
-For my second point in my capstone presentation, I will show either pictures of my paper drawings or
maybe even bring in the physical copies that I did when I was trying to come up with my designs.
-I’ll be bringing my laptop in, so for my third point in my capstone presentation I can show the full file of
the complete house blueprint, which includes all the levels.
-For my final point in my capstone presentation, I can take a tour of the digital model of the house. My
friend might join in the game so she can participate in the tour as well.

2) Core Competencies:
In the boxes below, explain how your project or the work we’ve done in CLC 12 Class demonstrates
your abilities and skills from each section of the Core Competencies. (You must choose at least two
points from each skill area of the core competencies.) *This was also done in your Capstone Draft
Proposal, so if the skills and abilities still apply and have not changed, then you can copy and paste
your answers in the Final Capstone Proposal*

Core Competency: How you demonstrate it in Capstone Project:

Personal Awareness & o I will demonstrate self-determination in my Capstone project by
Responsibility asking for help whenever I need it.
o I will demonstrate self-regulation by setting a schedule/timeline
so I can track what I did do and what I need to do.
Social Responsibility o I will demonstrate contributing to the community and caring for
the environment in my Capstone by helping my peers if they need
assistance.
o I will demonstrate building relationships by having positive
interactions with my guides and peers throughout this process.
Critical Thinking o I will demonstrate development and design because my entire
project is about designing, so I will be doing this the whole entire
process and developing it with the advice of my mentors.
o I will demonstrate question and investigating by talking to my
mentor and absorbing her guidance.
Creative Thinking o I will demonstrate generating ideas by saving my previous drafts
of blueprints prior to changing them with the advice of my
mentor.
o I will demonstrate developing ideas by taking advice from
professionals/my mentors and applying them to whatever I’m
making.
Communication o I will demonstrate acquiring, interpreting and presenting
information by showing my learning on a PowerPoint
presentation.
o I will demonstrate explaining/recounting and reflecting on
experiences and accomplishments when I do my presentation
with Mr. Main.
Personal & Cultural Identity o I will demonstrate personal values and choices by doing my
project on something I enjoy doing and would want to do for the
rest of my life.
o I will demonstrate personal strengths and abilities by using the
skills I already have throughout the project, such as perseverance.

3) Presentation preparation:
In the boxes below, answer the following questions: What will you require from your teacher, what will
you need to bring and what still needs to be completed between now and your Capstone presentation
day?
a) What will you require from your teacher in order to do your Capstone presentation? (Ex: Laptop,
table, poster paper, projector, etc…)

Access to TV

b) What will you need to bring in order to do your Capstone presentation?

My laptop
My phone (to call friend so she can watch the presentation too)

c) What still needs to be completed between now and your Capstone presentation day?

I still need to make the digital model, but it shouldn’t take too long. I’m currently making in-game money, so
I won’t have to do it mid-building.

4) References and explanation of sources:

Please paste all your current list of sources along with a brief explanation of what you used them for in
your research. All these sources should also be listed on your website on your References page.

Final Capstone Project Reflection Questions

(Please give specific detailed answers.)

1. In the process of completing your Capstone Project, what did you learn about your subject? What
did you learn about your skill set? What did you learn about yourself?
I learned that I’m not the best at time management. It’s not really news, but I think I have improved from the
beginning of the capstone project. In terms of skill set, I had a solid foundation thanks to my Drafting class last
year. I improved for sure, and the program was slightly different because the one I used for this is specifically
for Architecture. The one used in class was just for general drafting. It made it so much easier, and I didn’t
need to do at least half of what I did last year.
2. How is your project relevant to you? How is it relevant to the school? How is it relevant to the
community?
My project is relevant to me since I want to become an architect. This helped inform me better on the process
of how designing a house/building can go and the time it takes. It does take a lot of time to plan everything
out, figure out what room goes where and to make sure it all fits. Not to mention making sure it won’t be
difficult to build (as in it won’t defy gravity).
3. What impact did your Capstone have on you?
It left me more informed on the process (more or less) on what it’s like to work on designing a house. I
enjoyed the process, even though it was time consuming. I’m sure I would have been able to get it done
quicker if I didn’t have homework from other classes and work.
4. What aspects of your project are you most proud of?
The final product (the in-game model). I feel like I did a good job encompassing all that Lexie (my friend)
wanted for her dreamhouse. I will probably be asking for her help in terms of decorating and how she wanted
her indoor walls colored.
5. What was a difficulty you encountered while researching your Capstone project? How were you able
to overcome those obstacles?
Fortunately, I didn’t have to do too much researching. Only inspiration for how layouts could be formed. The
problem was to find a good website and the measurements. All of the “good” websites have their
measurements in the imperial system. I don’t understand imperial. It was very time consuming to continuously
convert everything back and forth.
6. What is the one thing you would have changed about your project if you could?
I probably would have thought about what I could realistically do. I did think I could design two houses, but
with the amount of time it took to come up with everything, find time to work on it outside of school, work
and life in general, I was only able to do one.
7. What advice would you offer to future Capstone students to help them with their Capstone journey?
GET STARTED EARLY (as soon as you get the assignment)!!! IT HELPED ME A LOT BECAUSE I STARTED TO GET
MORE SHIFTS AT WORK AND I HAD LESS TIME TO WORK ON MY PROJECT!!!
