CAPABILITIES & PREQUALIFICATION
Since its establishment, WJ has opened branch offices in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Qatar, Turkey, Kuwait, Canada and
Australia with further operations throughout the Middle East, Africa, and Europe. WJ has been operating in the
Middle East for over 15 years and is now established as the leading dewatering specialist in the region. Over 250
projects have been completed including the prestigious Dubai International Airport and Barwa Financial District
in Doha.
WJ has successfully introduced technical innovations for well and pumping systems:
WJ’s client list covers the full range of the construction industry, from multinational contractors to local civil
engineering companies, consulting engineers and client organisations. WJ aims to provide a service tailored to a
client’s needs, to provide the best value possible and to give a consistent, professional service from the tender,
the design stage through operations on site.
WJ’s technical expertise in the dewatering sector was recognised when we were asked to write the industry
standard by the Construction Industry Research and Information Association (CIRIA) UK and prepare
Groundwater Control: Design and Practice C515 published in 2000 and revised to CIRIA C750 in 2016.
CIRIA is the leading provider of performance improvement products and services in the construction and related
industries. Our primary aims are to improve the quality, efficiency, cost-effectiveness and safety of both the
provision and operations of the modern built environment. C750 Groundwater Control: Design and Practice states
that an excavation made below the water table has the risk of becoming unstable or flooding unless measures
are taken to control the groundwater. This publication provides information and guidance as part of construction
project temporary works. It gives practical information for effective and safe design, installation, and operation of
such works with case studies, datasheets, figures and extensive cross-references to help readers. Superseding
CIRIA Report 113, this entirely new guidance is valued by civil and geotechnical engineers, temporary works
designers and planners for projects where groundwater control may be required.
WJ carries out groundwater control and dewatering works for construction site excavations of all sizes: shored or
unshored and shallow or deep. Detailed method statements, risk assessments, site records, and drawings are
produced for all our contracts. Our subcontract packages also include engineers, fitters and back-up facilities on
24-hour call.
WJ can carry some of the ground-related risks if appropriate. All of our systems are available with automatic alarm
systems and remote monitoring equipment.
Deepwell system uses an electrical submersible pump installed in a lined well. It comprises an array of bored
wells, each fitted with a multi-stage electric submersible borehole pump. Drawdown is limited only by the depth of
the well and surrounding ground conditions.
WJ has used this method to dewater both low permeability and high permeability soils and rock at depths of more
than 50 m. Our method of installing well screens ensures that water leaving the well is free of suspected solids,
which means that the water does not need treatment prior to discharge and that our wells and pumps last longer.
Deepwells can be installed around the site’s perimeter minimising disruption of other construction activities. The
system is reliable and the wide spaced wells reduce access restrictions to a minimum.
In both cases, a pit is dug inside the excavation below the formation
level into which water can flow. The water is then pumped out of
the pit. A French drain is a trench filled with coarse aggregate
allowing water to flow freely along its length to a collecting point.
WJ can provide these as a dewatering system, as part of a larger
system or assist with their design.
WJ are capable of installing dewatering systems for excavation with several kilometres of perimeter. We are also
able to install dewatering systems for long trenches, either with wellpoints or deepwells. Our extensive fleet of
pumps, discharge pipework and electrical controls have been used for many such projects.
WJ carry out temporary overpumping and bypass pumping of water or sewage effluent during construction,
maintenance, repairs and upgrade works. Our experience includes draining lagoons and ponds, constructing and
operating bypass systems for sewerage treatment works, carrying out emergency works to pump away flood and
rainwater and overpumping sewerage and water from manholes and chambers. This involves deploying a range
of centrifugal diesel and sump pumps with large solid handling ability capable of pumping and discharging both
sewerage and water up to 10000l/s.
To provide confidence 100% standby pumps are used as back up, filter screens are used on suction hoses and
pumps to reduce risk of blockages from rags and large objects and HDPE pipework are often used where high
flows are expected.
Sewage and Storm Water Over pumping: WJ can carry out complete temporary installation and operation
providing total solution. WJ maintains a large fleet of surface mounted diesel engine pumps high in capacity and
with large solids handling capacity spanning 30mm to 120mm. When surface mount is not an option, we can also
achieve similar pumping capacity using our well maintained electric submersible drainage and sewage pumps.
Equipment Hire: We offer a large and well-maintained fleet of equipment like pumps, bunded fuel tanks,
generators, break water tanks, sedimentation tanks, filter skids, drip trays, connections, valves, fittings and
accessories to meet any demands across industries. All hire requirements can be specifically addressed to
individual needs through our tailor made short or long-term offerings. We can commit to guaranteed 24/7 service
and technical support back-up with our experienced and trained personnel. Our in-house technical design and
applications engineers support each of our customers with optimal and most economical solutions.
Automation & Remote Operation: Our pumps can be set up in synchronisation with an automatic start stop
configuration using level control sensor probes in the suction pit. To ensure minimum downtime we can supply a
double battery arrangement and trickle chargers on our unit. Remote management and control capacities are
added to our existing fleet for central management.
Emergency Flood Control & Planning: We partner with numerous local authorities, community managers and
clients to offer our well reputed and recognised flood control and mitigation solutions. During unexpected rains in
the region, WJ was quick to respond in record time. Our service teams operate round the clock in tandem with
our quick response teams. We can guarantee the fastest optimal solution in times of unexpected flooding or water
logging.
WJ has successfully installed numerous dewatering and water pumping systems designed to last for several years
or even the life of the project/structure. WJ uses materials suitable for the environments in which the project is
situated. In the Middle East, this may mean using parts that can withstand heat, UV rays and corrosive saltwater.
Where corrodible metal parts must be used, such as in our electric submersible pumps, cathodic protection has
been fitted to prolong the life-span of these parts. WJ is able to act as maintenance contractor for permanent or
long-term installations.
WJ has much experience in the installation and operation of automated remote monitoring systems. Data from a
range of geotechnical instrumentation can be displayed in real time on WJ’s secure monitoring website.
WJ’s professional staff can provide expert advice on geotechnical, hydraulic, geochemical, and hydrogeologic
issues. We have particular expertise in site investigations, pumping tests, design of pumping with dewatering
schemes and groundwater pollution control schemes.
WJ has an extensive drilling rig fleet with the capacity to drill to depths in excess of 400m deep, diameters up to
600mm as well as inclined drilling for probe holes, in-tunnel wells and anchors. WJ operate both rotary and piling
drilling rigs as well as specialised confined spaces drilling rigs capable of drilling at a range of angles. We have
extensive experience with various drilling methods: water, air, foam flush, polymer-based mud drilling and shell-
and-augured cased holes. These are all regularly employed in the drilling process to tackle the various geological
challenges encountered. Our drilling crews and supervisory staff have experience with waterwell, geotechnical,
geothermal drilling and application from all over the world.
WJ’s dewatering systems rely on high specification of dewatering and monitoring wells to ensure casing and filter
installations assuring maximum well yield and water that is free from suspended solids.
Each project that WJ design and implements takes into account local water resources, including drinking water
aquifers and adjacent water features. Discharge of water from sites where dewatering of contaminated land is
required could pose an environmental hazard if left untreated.
WJ has designed, installed, commissioned and operated the following groundwater remediation systems:
We also undertake a number of other activities, including remediation of soil and groundwater, geothermal wells
and thermal response testing and pumping tests. More details can be found in our website www.wj-me.com.
WJ has been engaged in the contracting business for over 40 years, including 12 years in the UAE. We have
extensive experience in the dewatering business as a specialist sub-contractor servicing the needs of the
construction and water supply industry. Since its establishment, WJ has opened branch offices in Dubai, Abu
Dhabi, and Doha with further operations throughout the Middle East, Africa and Europe.
WJ takes pride in having capably completing all awarded contracts and most of our clients come back with repeat
business. The following contracts, covering work similar in type and magnitude to that set forth in the Request for
Proposal, are some of the many projects which are in progress and have been satisfactorily completed within the

Over the last 20 to 30 years, the historic tunnel had suffered water,
sand ingress and subsequent settlement. WJ was responsible for the
design, installation and maintenance of a permanent dewatering
system and pumping station in order to permanently lower the
groundwater level and stabilise the tunnel.
As a part of the 2012 Olympic site development in East London the HV electric cables which crossed the site on
pylons were placed underground in two deep tunnels. To facilitate construction of the tunnels, a number of shafts
up to 35 m deep were constructed, nine of which required dewatering works. Due to various strata and aquifers
encountered, different dewatering techniques were used. To reduce the pressure in the lower aquifer consisting
of chalk and overlying Thanet Sand, deep wells were installed in the chalk. In the intermediate aquifer, ejector
wells were used to reduce pore pressures in the variable sand and clay layers. On some shafts, inclined wellpoints
were installed from within the shaft to target specific sand layers.
WJ was responsible for the design, installation and operation of dewatering schemes for two cut and cover/open-
cut approach structures for twin railway tunnels under the River Thames. On the south side, dewatering was
carried out with 53 nos. internal wells and 14 nos. on the north side with discharge flows in the range of 1000 l/s.
WJ also installed an array of 50 nos. recharge wells around an adjacent sensitive facility.
WJ designed, installed and operated a deepwell dewatering system to facilitate the installation of the tie rods
between the sea quay wall and parallel diaphragm wall at the London Gateway Port. The port was built by its
Dubai-owned company DP World and WJ worked for Laing O’Rourke the Main Contractor. WJ successfully
operated the dewatering system along the 1300m of quay wall. There were approximately 50 No deepwells
operational and the contract value was approximately 7 million AED.
As part of the Crossrail works WJ have also undertaken 2D and 3D computer modelling; geotechnical
instrumentation and monitoring; installed groundwater treatment systems including one with a capacity of
100l/s to remove hydrocarbons; undertaken hundreds of in-tunnel probes and wellpoints within Sprayed
Concrete Lined Tunnels to prove ground conditions; installed dewatering systems in tunnels with an excess of
5 bar of pressure using lost bit drilling technologies.

11.6. QUALITY, HEALTH, SAFETY & ENVIRONMENTAL POLICY
The purpose of this policy is to underpin our aim of total client satisfaction and continual improvement
throughout our business and to implement our mission to;
“Be the dewatering contractor of choice for the markets we operate in”.
This is not simply about being technically competent in engineering skills; to deliver our service effectively
we need to be proficient in plant operation and maintenance, project management and financial control. We
intend to project our reach further internationally and to do this we need to be able to recruit and train staff
to a high standard with a range of skills at all levels in the company. We aim to be expert in our field in order
to effectively manage project risk. Also there is pleasure in a job well done and we believe that this is an
attractive route to long term growth in profits and value.
We are committed to complying with these arrangements and that we recognise the importance of
continually updating and improving its effectiveness. Updating is necessary because our clients’ needs may
vary and we change when staff arrives or leaves including technology and equipment changes.
WJ is committed to delivering a comprehensive and reliable service that includes measures to avoid or
minimise any adverse environmental impact like preventing pollution. We are dedicated to provide safe and
healthy working conditions for our employees, prevent injury and ill health and to ensure that our work does
not endanger anyone else.
In principle, our clients need us to deliver our services efficiently to meet their program and the agreed
project budget whilst maintaining our legal and contractual obligations to manage HSE issues and other
Regulatory and Government requirements.
Quality, Environment, Health & Safety are important to our business because we value our Clients greatly.
We strive to provide our Client with services which meet and even exceed their expectations. We are
committed to continual improvement and have established an Integrated Management System (IMS) which
provides a framework for measuring and improving our performance and reviewing information about
internal and external issues.
• our IMS
• ensure that trained and competent, professional and technical employees are doing the job
This policy is communicated and reviewed periodically. It is a controlled document and is made available to
all employees and to any client or member of the public requesting it. WJ has also set and established QHSE
objectives as key performance indicators annually to support the company’s drive to continually improve.
While the penchant for quality is engrained in our people, the company still actively seeks and requests the
support and cooperation of all our employees. Every person shall read and make himself conversant with
this policy and its relevant procedures and undertake all activities with full regard of their own and others
health & safety. Which means that no employee is to carry out work that they reasonably consider to be
unsafe.
The management ensures the actual execution of the QHSE policy by developing, maintaining and improving
an Integrated Management System in accordance with the ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015 & ISO
45001:2018 international standards.
