3.3 Unpacking
Examine the contents and validate your packing list. Inspect the server for visible signs of
damage. If damage is detected, contact the distributor. For safety warnings and notices refer
to the enclosed safety warnings.
When finished, continue with "Rack mounting the server" on page 14.
NOTE: Two people are required to carry the server and place it into the rack rails.
1. Find the rail kit, which contains two slide rails, and attach slides to the server.
2. Attach the rails to the rack post by either clipping them in or screwing them in. If holes
in the rack posts are square, clip in the rails. If the holes are round or too small for clips,
remove the clips from the rails and screw them (rails) into the rack posts.
3. Make sure the rails are aligned correctly and pull out when finished.
4. Two people are required to carry the server and place it into the rack rails. Lock each
side into position.
5. Lift up the green tabs on the rack rails and slide the server in. Ensure server is secure.
Label the server.
6. Continue with cabling procedures found in "Port configuration" on page 17.
NOTE: Two people are required to carry the server and place it into the rack.
1. Open the rail kit, which contains server brackets, rear brackets, L brackets (for two-
post rail rack mount), and a fastener pack (screws, handle spacers, nut bars, and
server disks).
2. Remove server handles, if attached.
3. Attach server bracket to server in front-mount position, using the screws provided.
4. Similarly, attach second server bracket to the other side, using the screws provided.
5. Attach server disks to the back end of the QUANTiX SBC, one on each side.
6. If needed, attach a nut bar inside both rear rack posts. Do not completely tighten the
screws; keep them loose enough to insert the rear brackets into the posts.
7. Insert rear brackets between nut bars and rack posts, one on each side. Firmly tighten
the screws.
8. When both brackets are securely attached, place your server into the rack. Lift the
server, with the front facing you. Position the server disks into the rear brackets. This
is a two-person task.
9. Slide it towards the rear of the rack posts until the front of the server brackets contact
the front rack posts.
10. Attach server brackets to front of rack posts, using nut bars provided. Do this for
both sides.
11. Test to ensure that the server is secure in the rack and then label the server.
12. Continue with cabling procedures found in "Configuring cables" on page 19.

CAUTION
Do not turn on the server until following the procedures in
"Powering on" on page 21.
1. Using Table 3 on page 12, determine the number of cables and switch ports needed,
based upon whether any signaling or RTP media need to be on a public, private, or
dual public/private network.
2. Read through the port usage descriptions in Table 5 on page 17. Decide which ports
you are using. Refer to Figure 5 to see where these ports are located.
3. Plug in one end of cable to eth0 port, the other end into a switch. This cable is required.
4. Do not plug in any cable for eth1.
5. Plug in the end(s) of cable(s) to either/both ports eth2 or eth3, and the other end(s) to
a switch(es). This cable(s) is used for signaling.
6. Do not plug in any cable to eth4.
7. For the media card, plug in the end(s) of cable(s) to media ports hk0,0, hk0,1, hk0,2,
and/or hk0,3, and the other end(s) into a switch(es). The number of media ports used
depends on whether your network is public, private, or a combination of both.
8. If you configure the remote management network plug in one end of cable to RMM
port, the other end into a switch. See "Configuring the RMM4 remote management port
(optional)" on page 22 for more information.
9. After all cables are plugged in, connect to either a computer with a serial console
connection or a monitor/keyboard combination.
10. Plug in the server to a power cable and power supply.
11. Continue with "Powering on and initial configuration" on page 21.
CAUTION
Do not turn on either server until following the procedures in "Powering
on and initial configuration" on page 21.
3.8.1 Powering on
To power on the server:
1. Plug in monitor (if using) to the power supply and into the primary Q21 server.
2. Press the power button on the front panel to turn on the server. Startup takes
approximately five minutes.
3. For the secondary HA server, repeat the previous steps.
When the server (or servers) have been powered on, the physical setup is complete.
Once connected login as “root” using the password for your system given to you by
GENBAND.
Consider your specific network environment to determine the appropriate IP addresses to use
for the server’s ethernet interfaces. This must be done for both servers in an HA configuration.
The server comes equipped with the Intel RMM4 module. Accessing this module provides
capabilities such as system information, server health, configuration and remote control.
To configure the RMM4 IP address for the optional use of remote management support use
the following command:
A user guide for the module is available by searching “RMM4” on the Intel website. Onboard
help can be obtained with the following command:
ipmiutil lan -L 3 -?
To display the current settings of the RMM4 use the following command:
ipmiutil lan -L 3 -r
CAUTION
Use care when executing the ipmi command line and parameters. Errors
in the command format or parameters can result in unpredictable or
undesirable results.
When configuring the management port (eth0) use the addresses and netmasks you recorded
in Table 4. For the control ports (eth1 and eth4) used in HA system configuration and signaling
ports (eth2 and eth3), the internal IP addresses listed in the table below are suggested.
NOTE: Do not use 127.0.0.1, which is reserved for local loopback. If you are using GENView-
RSM in your network, the server’s signaling interfaces should not be on the same
network with the GENView-RSM management IP address.
You can configure bonded control links by connecting the two systems with two cables
connected to eth1 and eth4 and bonding the interfaces. The single bond0 interface can then
be assigned to an IP address.
When using bonded control links, the IP address for the combined interface is defined during
installation. Set up the bonded control interface during initial server installation. If you try to
add a bonded control interface after initial installation, it will fail.
NOTE: Do not use the Linux command ifconfig eth1 down to terminate the primary interface.
Using this command will cause both systems in a bonded interface to become active.
To configure the IP addresses you must use YaST. Once you are logged in, start YaST using
this command:
yast lan
CAUTION
Do not use Linux commands such as ifconfig to set up IP addresses
because the addresses will not persist when the system is restarted.
Use YaST to assign the necessary IP addresses to the server interfaces.
Use the TAB key to move forward and the Shift+TAB keys to move backward between
selectable items in modules. The arrow keys allow you to move up and down or left and right
within lists. Selectable modules and actions are displayed with a single highlighted letter.
Pressing ALT+highlighted letter together will execute the action or activate a menu item.
Assign a static management network IP address (eth0). This is usually an address on a secure
LAN that is used to manage and configure the server. This connection is used for SSH,
GENView-RSM, DNS, and other internal network services. Both management interfaces in an
HA configuration must be on the same LAN and sub-network.
The configuration of the server from the factory will be similar to the one shown on the
Overview module of the Network Settings page in Figure 7.
The server comes pre-configured with an IP address. You must first change the pre-configured
IP address and assign a static management network IP address to the management port
(eth0).
From the Overview module of the Network Settings page follow these steps to configure the
IP address for the management network port.
1. Navigate to the eth0 interface. The description of each interface, including the interface
name, is displayed in the gray information box when an interface is selected.
2. Press the ALT+i keys to select EDIT and configure the interface.
3. In the Network Card Setup dialog verify that Statically assigned IP Address is
selected with an “x” as shown in Figure 8.
4. Navigate to the IP Address field and enter the system management IP address you
recorded in Table 4.
5. Navigate to the Subnet Mask field and enter the system management netmask you
recorded in Table 4.
6. Press the ALT+N keys to select NEXT.
1. From the Network Settings page enter the Routing module shown in Figure 9 by
pressing the ALT+u keys.
2. Navigate to the Default IPv4 Gateway field and enter the gateway IP address you
recorded in Table 4.
3. To exit the module press the ALT+O keys to select OK.
4. Press the ALT+s keys to enter the Hostname/DNS module shown in Figure 10.
5. Navigate to the Hostname field and enter the system (host) name you recorded in
Table 4.
6. Navigate to the Domain Name field and enter the management domain name.
7. Navigate to the Name Server 1 field and enter the IP address of your domain server
(127.0.0.1 in the figure example).
8. To exit the module press the ALT+O keys to select OK.
Follow these steps to assign an HA configuration address (eth1) from the Overview module
of the Network Settings page.
Follow these steps to assign IP addresses for the signaling interfaces (eth2 and eth3) from the
Overview module of the Network Settings page.
Follow these steps to assign an optional HA configuration address (eth4) from the Overview
module of the Network Settings page.
To disable the forwarding function and local DNS service, disable the DNS named daemon
with the following command:
NOTE: You must immediately change the default password for the root user after installing.
