INTRODUCTION
Systems and methods for performing a stepwise depressurization of a high-pressure fluid (liquid)
filled chamber are shown and described. At least two valves are controllably opened and closed
in a sequence to release a predetermined amount of pressure from the high-pressure chamber. At
least some of the pressurized fluid released from the high-pressure chamber is stored, at least
temporarily, in a second pressure chamber. The second pressure chamber is located between the
two controllable valves. A control system controls the valves in response to a signal from at least
one pressure sensor coupled to the high-pressure chamber. Additional components can be
included in the system such as a pressure intensifier and a high-pressure pump, both coupled to
the high-pressure chamber, and at least one other pressure sensor to improve the accuracy of the
measured pressure in the high-pressure chamber.
OBJECTIVE
To study the response of the pressurized vessel following a stepwise depressurization
PROCEDURES
1. General start up procedures as stated in appendix A were performed. All valves were
fully closed.
2. The hose from compressive pump to pressurized chamber was connected.
3. The compressive pump was switched on and allowed the pressure inside chamber to
increase up to about 160kPa. Then, it was switched off and removed the hose from the
chamber.
4. The pressure reading inside the chamber was monitor until it stabilizes. The pressure
reading PT 1 was record.
5. Valve V 01 was fully opened and brought back to closed position instantly.
The pressure reading PT 1was monitor and recorded until it becomes stable.
6. Step 5 was repeated for at least three times.
7. The pressure reading was Displayed on a graph and discussed.
3
RESULT & DISCUSSION
After the compressive pump was switched on and the pressure in the chamber rose to 160KPa,
Also, after valve 1 was opened a stepwise depressurization happened, and the pressure decreased
to 116.3KPa, then it rose up to reach 117.2 KPa. Finally, it ended into 112.6 KPa, till it reached
104.1KPa. As it shown in the graph below:

LIMITATION
There was only one limitation in this experiment, which is the opening of valve one, which
determine how many steps should be there of pressure depression.
