Problems to Address:
Population in bogies Train tracking, travel route planning and transport service planning,
The Indian Railways is one of the largest railway networks managed by the Government of
India. The extensive network covers almost the entire country, allowing for the movement of
passengers and goods from one part of the country to another. As an entity, Indian Railways,
due to its large-scale operations, faces various challenges. The issues which are being
discussed in this report are as follows:
AI and other management information systems (MIS) have the potential to transform the
Indian Railways, making them more efficient, safe, and customer-centric. The problems
mentioned above can be tackled using various Information Systems.
Problems:
Crowd flow management is made more difficult by the lack of facilities at railway stations.
Insufficient waiting areas, sitting arrangements, and a lack of critical services exacerbate
congestion within station premises. Passengers waiting for trains are frequently crammed into
small places, lacking suitable seating and comfort. The lack of adequate facilities not only
degrades the overall passenger experience but also makes it impossible for railway authorities
to govern the movement of big groups efficiently.
An analytical AI-driven management is required to overcome these difficulties by generating
real-time crowd monitoring. Management technology can provide insights about passenger
density, allowing authorities to conduct prompt measures.
Real-Time Tracking
Poor real-time train tracking is mainly ascribed to technical restrictions and technological
deficiencies within the existing railway system. The difficulties connected with these
characteristics considerably impact the efficiency and accuracy of real-time monitoring and
tracking of trains.
Technological limitations intensify the problems. Due to the poor integration of current
technology into the existing railway ecosystem, travellers may face delays and difficulty
receiving reliable real-time information. This constraint may be due to the network's
cohabitation of legacy systems, antiquated communication protocols, and a lack of
standardised technologies. The lack of a consistent technology framework impedes the
seamless flow of real-time data, making it difficult to track trains and deliver timely
information to passengers effectively.
