The water cycle, also known as the hydrological cycle, describes the continuous movement of water
on, above, and below the surface of the Earth. It involves a series of processes, including
evaporation, condensation, precipitation, and runoff.

The cycle begins with the process of evaporation, where heat from the sun causes water from
oceans, lakes, and rivers to turn into water vapor and rise into the atmosphere. Once in the
atmosphere, the water vapor cools and condenses to form clouds through the process of
condensation.

As the clouds gather more moisture, they eventually become heavy and precipitation occurs in the
form of rain, snow, sleet, or hail. This precipitation falls back to the Earth's surface and collects in
bodies of water, such as rivers, lakes, and oceans, where it can evaporate once again and continue
the cycle.

Some of the precipitation that falls onto the land infiltrates into the soil and becomes groundwater.
This groundwater may eventually resurface through springs or be absorbed by plants and released
back into the atmosphere through a process called transpiration.

57. What is the first process in the water cycle?

a. Condensation

b. Precipitation

c. Evaporation

d. Runoff

58. Where does precipitation collect after falling to the Earth's surface?
a. In the atmosphere

b. In rivers, lakes, and oceans

Butterflies under go a fascinating life cycle known as metamorphosis, which consists of four distinct
stages: egg, larva (caterpillar), pupa (chrysalis), and adult.

The life cycle begins when a female butterfly lays her eggs on the leaves of a host plant. These tiny
eggs are usually laid in clusters and may hatch within a few days or weeks, depending on the
species.

Once the eggs hatch, they give rise to larva, commonly known as caterpillars. Caterpillars spend the
majority of their time eating and growing. As they consume plant material, they go through multiple
stages of growth, shedding their skin in a process called molting.

After reaching a certain size, the caterpillar enters the pupa stage, forming a protective covering
known as a chrysalis around its body. Inside the chrysalis, the caterpillar undergoes a remarkable
transformation, breaking down its tissues and reorganizing them into the body of a butterfly.

Finally, the adult butterfly emerges from the chrysalis, its wings still soft and folded. As it pumps
fluid into its wings and waits for them to dry, the butterfly prepares for its first flight. Once its wings
are fully developed, the butterfly takes to the air, beginning the cycle anew by seeking out a mate
and laying eggs.

59. What is the first stage in the life cycle of a butterfly?

a. Larva

b. Egg

c. Pupa

d. Adult

60. What do caterpillars spend most of their time doing?
