WELL INTERVENTION OVERVIEW
➢ All operation done on (or in) a live or dead
well without pulling out of hole tubing
hanger

➢ During live well operation pressure control

equipment continuously exposed to well
pressure. As contrary to drilling or
workover where pressure control equipment
is a back up and the main barrier is drilling
fluid or workover fluid

➢ Continuous usage of pressure control

equipment in live well operation are to
control well pressure and release of unburnt
hydrocarbon effluent to atmosphere.

➢ During operation, all standard safety

devices are disabled (downhole safety
valve, Xmas tree valves) from platform ESD
and under full control well intervention team
by using independent well control panel

Well Intervention Flyer June 2024 by Didit Achmad Barito 3

OFFSHORE NORGE WELL CONTROL & WELL INTEGRITY INCIDENTS DEFINITION

Well Control Incident

A well control incident is in drilling & completion and live well intervention defined
as a failure of barrier (s) or failure to activate barrier (s), resulting in an
unintentional flow of formation fluid:

➢ Into the well

➢ Into another formation or

➢ To the external environment.

Well Integrity Incident

A well integrity incident is defined as a failure of barrier (s) or failure to activate

barrier (s), resulting unintentional flow, leak or release of fluids to the environment,
other formations, or adjacent system.
