FamiIy Coping Index
The objective of this indicator is to present a benchmark for approximating the nursing
needs of a particular family, thus Family Coping ndex. t is the coping capacity and not the
underlying problem that is being rated, and it is designed to record family rather than individual
coping capacity. n public health nursing, the family cannot be seen only as a factor that affects
health; rather, the family is the patient.

PhysicaI Independence

Each member is physically adequate
To perform his/her individual role; the
Grandmother and her sons help one
another in sustaining the family needs,
such as certain tasks or chores inside
the home and taking care of her grandson.
Therapeutic Competence

They give and were given proper medication to
take and can afford to buy medicines that is for
minor illnesses only such as cough, colds, fever
and body pain. Not only that, The family is in
good condition as of now and did not suffer
from any severe illness and they are aware on
basic prevention of diseases. Furthermore,
They know the correct dosage, duration and
symptoms to be observed once the health
teachings were render to them.
nowIedge of HeaIth Condition

The family was informed about some health
condition. But the compliance is not that
adequate due to their shifts of work and
economic situation.

Hygiene

The family takes their bath regularly and aware
of maintaining a clean body, They do wash their
hands however; mostly they're washing it
without soap.
HeaIth Attitudes

The family accepts health care with
some degree and the family uses OTC
drugs and herbal medicines for treatment
of minor illnesses and often goes to clinic
for consultation.
EmotionaI Competence

The family can cope up with the usual problems
and stress they encounter. Despite of some
financial instability in the family they manage to
live a life with love and security with one
another even if there were conflicts sometimes.
FamiIy Living

The family is happy despite of family problems
encountered. Observance of total care by the
Mother to her sons and grandson. At the same
time her sons always show respect and love to
her and helping their Mother financially.
PhysicaI Environment

The house needs a little more improvement
especially in cleanliness, sanitation and
organization of things inside their house. Such
factors include presence of improper waste
disposal, unorganized clothes inside the rooms,
and a dirty kitchen.
Use of Community FaciIities

The family is aware of the availability of the
community facilities. They're also aware of the
free medications and immunization that they
could avail for the baby in the house. They
really give an effort to seek health services in
the Barangay Health Center in case of minor
illness.
