1. bikini 2. dress 3. hat 4. shirt

5. flip-flops 6. shorts 7. sunglasses 8. sandals
5 mins.
Students have to, in pairs, think of three words for each category. During feedback add any new vocabulary to
the board and practice pronunciation.

2. Summertime collocations

10 mins.
Part A
This stage is to introduce common collocations to describe summer activities. The students have to match a word
from column A to a word or phrase in column B. You may need to concept-check some of the verbs before the
students complete the task. When the students have finished, check the answers, and ask further clarification
questions to check the meaning of the phrases and practice pronunciation. Then ask them to discuss, in pairs,
what activities they do/don’t do during the summer.
Use the opportunity to clarify any misunderstandings and reinforce the meaning and usage of the collocations.

1. → g. 2. → d. 3. → e. 4. → h. 5. → c. 6. → a.
7. → b. 8. → f.
Part B
Demonstrate an example if necessary. Monitor the students as they complete the activity, helping where necessary.

When all students have finished, go through the answers as a class.

Remember, the goal of this exercise is not only to practice these specific collocations but also to reinforce the skill
of identifying collocations and understanding their meaning in different contexts.

1. I want to travel abroad next year.

2. We like to go camping in the summer.
3. Every summer, we visit family in Scotland.
4. I love to eat ice cream when it’s hot outside.
