Using Google docs PART 1

You are going to continue the document that you started last lesson that explains how to do things
for future year 7 students.
Section A
1. Make sure you are on Google Chrome and have signed into your school Google account
2. Find the Google doc that you started last lesson which you should have named How to use
Moodle worksheets.
There are THREE ways to find this document – have a go at all 3 ways so you know how to
use them all
First method
• Click on the 9 dots for Google apps in the top right corner of Chrome

• Click on the Google Drive icon (you might need to scroll to find it)

• Type the document name into the search box

• Press the Enter key on your keyboard

• Your Google doc should be there – double click it to open it so it is ready to use

Second method
• Click on the 9 dots for Google apps in the top right corner of Chrome

• Click on the Google Drive icon (you might need to scroll to find it)

• Click the arrow at the side of the search box

• There are various ways to find your document from here

e.g. you can put the date you last used it in the “Date
modified” row
e.g. you can put its name in the “Item name” row

Do one of these and then click the Search button

• Your Google doc should be there – double click it to open it so

it is ready to use

Third method
• Click on the 9 dots for Google apps in the top right corner of Chrome

• Click on the Google Doc icon

• Scroll down the webpage & you should see the name of your Google doc

• Click on its name and it should open ready to use

Section B
1. Finish the explanation that you started last lesson that explains how to download worksheets
from Moodle. Remember, to include screen shots so that future Year 7 students can see what
you mean as well as reading your instructions. (There are reminders about how to make a
screenshot at the bottom of this page).

2. When you think you have finished writing your instructions have a go at following them to see
how good they – do they tell you exactly what to do or do they miss out some steps?

3. Write an explanation of how to share a Google doc with your teacher – again include some
screenshots.

If there is time in the lesson

• Click on the 9 dots for Google apps in the top right corner of Chrome

• Click on the Google Slides icon

• Click on the Blank presentation option

Now create a Google slides presentation that introduces you to your classmates – tell them some
interesting facts about yourself:
- maybe share some of your hobbies and favourite things
- maybe there is something that they will be really surprised about you e.g. Have you got a pet
giraffe? is your hobby goldmining? Did you go on holiday to the moon?
Do NOT share your address or phone number.

Remember, you make a screenshot by:

a) pressing the key labelled Prt Sc on the keyboard (this takes a photo of your computer screen)
b) clicking Edit then Paste in your Google doc

c) You can change the size of the screen shot by clicking & dragging the squares in the corners

d) You can remove parts of the screen shot by clicking it & then clicking the Crop image icon
This makes the corners turn black & you can drag
the corners to remove parts of the screen shot
