MANAGERIAL STATISTICS
Hypothesis Testing

Step 1: Formulate the null and alternative hypothesis.

Step 2: What Test Statistics to be used.
Step 3: Computations
Step 4: Decision – if to accept or reject the null hypothesis.
Step 5: Conclusion

1. Two auditing firms made note of the time required to audit 25 account balances as indicated in the
frequency distribution below. Is there a significant difference in their findings with respect to time
duration? Use 5% significance level.
Nearest minutes
Firm A f Firm B f
10-18 3 12-20 4
19-27 5 21-29 8
28-36 7 30-38 2
37-45 4 39-47 5
46-54 6 48-56 6

Step 1: Formulate the null and alternative hypothesis.
H o : Firm A and B are significantly not different ( µ1=µ2)
H 1: Firm A and B are significantly different ( µ1 ≠ µ2) ( µ1> µ 2) ( µ1< µ 2)

Step 2: Test Statistics. If Z-Test or T-Test.

Z-test if n is ≥ 30 (30 pataas)
T-test if n is < 30 (29 pababa)

Step 3: Computations.
