Speech Production
The gross components of the speech system are the lungs, trachea (windpipe), larynx (organ of speech
production), pharyngeal cavity (throat), oral or buccal cavity (mouth), and nasal cavity (nose).
In technical discussions, the pharyngeal and oral cavities are usually grouped into one unit referred to as the
vocal tract, and the nasal cavity is often called the nasal tract. Accordingly, the vocal tract begins at the output of the
larynx (vocal cords or glottis) and terminates at the input to the lips. The nasal tract begins at the velum and ends at the
nostrils. When the velum (a trapdoor-like mechanism at the back of the oral cavity) is lowered, the nasal tract is
acoustically coupled to the vocal tract to produce the nasal sounds of speech.

Death penalty for serious criminals has been discussed by our experts. Those who agree say that death penalty

Should people who live in the city be allowed to keep dogs?
There are many reasons for keeping dogs as pets in the city area, but there also many people who feel dogs

Using Nuclear Energy should be avoided for the shake of environmental safety
Nuclear energy is commonly offered as an alternative to overcome the crisis of energy. The debate whether the
use of nuclear energy is an appropriate choice has not come to an end. Some people agree with the utilization of it
because of its benefits. Some others, however, disagree because of its risks to the environmental safety. So, nuclear
energy should be avoided.
Those who agree with the operation of nuclear reactors usually argue that the energy produced from them can be
used for multipurpose. The reactors can produce radioisotopes utilized in medical, industrial, and agricultural fields.
They also claim that nuclear energy is the only feasible choice to answer the ever-increasing energy needs. According to
them, the other sources of energy: oil, coal, and liquid natural gas are not renewable and safe, while the nuclear energy
can be sustainably produced in a safe way. Some government officials also point out that this kind of energy is the
safest one in response to the environment compared to the non-renewable ones mentioned above. They claim that the
reactor operates on a zero-release basis, which means that waste materials are processed so that none will be released
into the environment. In addition, they believe that nuclear energy will never cause pollution, but the others, especially
oil and coal, really do.
On the other hand, people who disagree with the use of nuclear energy, keep criticizing that to choose it, as the
best alternative to overcome the growing energy needs is silly. The silliness can be seen from the question why they are
interested in nuclear power when there is still an abundance of natural energy resources, like oil, coal, hydroelectric,
thermal, etc.
In reaction to the environment, they add that the operation of the nuclear reactors does not make any sense. Some
NGOs specializing in efforts to save environment argue that their waste products completely destroy environment and
human lives. On the other hand, it is true that the other kinds of energy like oil and coal support the environmental
pollution, but their contribution can still be tolerated. It is also rue that the reactors provide energy in great quantities,
but their contributions to destroy our environments and lives cannot be avoided. A meltdown in a reactor, for example,
result in a contamination of soil and water under its core, making human lives impossible for miles around. The reactor
is also dangerous to human lives because of its radiation leaking. In this case, it is often said that under a good control
no fission products are allowed to leak out from the reactor. But who can guarantee this?
It is obvious that nuclear energy should be avoided because it endangers environment. If we continue using it,
while the radiation is very poorly controlled, it will kill ourselves sooner or later. The government should pay much
attention to the fact and revise the choice.

Multi Level Marketing (MLM), which has been mushrooming in Indonesia, still becomes debates among those
who agree with the system and those who disagree. Here are some of the arguments.
On the other hand, people believe that the strategy can improve people’s income and way of life. By selling
products, an MLMer will get an active income, that is 20% - 30% profit of the price of the products. If someone, say
Mr. Arnold, can prospect people to become his/her downline, Mr Arnold will also receive a percentage from the goods
the downline buys. If the downline can also expand the network, Mr. Arnold will also get percentages. Besides, it can
develop one’s personality and encourage him/her to work harder. Because MLMs offer people financially freedom in
the future, they will try to avoid feeling of worry and shy to prospect the products. MLM companies also conduct
seminars and meetings to encourage people to work harder.
Many MLMers fail to prospect people either become members or buy their products. Because MLM is neither
advertised nor sold in general markets. MLMers should spend more time to memorize and persuade people the quality
of their products. This really needs much spirit. Not all people agree the company’s promise to improve people’s
income. The cons say that they see a cheesy, obvious, and blatant appeal to greed and materialism. Although there are

In the last few years there has been an explosion in the use of new communications technologies, including
mobile phones, it sis estimated that over 70% of young people aged 10-14 now own one. Considerable debate has taken
place in the press recently as to whether pupils should be allowed to take their mobile phones into school.
No one can deny the positive benefits of children communicating freely with each other, and the pupil argue that
using a mobile phone to talk to or text-message their friends is simply one way of doing this, using new technology.
Many parents are in favor too, and like the reassurance of knowing their child can be safer and more independent if they
have a mobile phone, since they can contact them at any time if necessary. They cite potential risks faced by some
children traveling alone.
However, schools point out that carrying a mobile phone could in itself make a child more vulnerable to thefts or
mugging, both on the street and even in the playground. Police figures confirm that a high proportion of the crimes
committed against young people involve thefts of mobile phones. Schools are concerned, moreover, that allowing
pupils to bring their mobiles to school could create a competitive atmosphere amongst children and result in some
children feeling left out and unvalued. In addition they claim that pupils’ education would be affected by the distraction
of phones ringing in the class.
Some doctors fear the children using mobile phones could suffer long-term brain damage. Until this is disproved,
it would seem that schools might best protect their pupils from this and other problems by making them leave their

We think they should be stopped for a number of reasons.

West Cornwall
The area that was once the engine room of Britain’s mining industry has a haunting
beauty. The towns of Redruth and its sibling Camborne were West Cornwall’s mining

If you’ve got the legs and the stamina there’s no better way to get to know Cornwall’s
wild Atlantic seaboard than to hike it. The National Trust looks after 260 km of Cornish
coastline, sand dunes and sheltered bays for walkers. On a breezy day with the sun flitting in
and out of clouds, we take the local bus from Redruth to St Agnes and hike 12 km south to
Portreath.
The 18 km cycling trail is the best in that part of the country. It takes you from
Portreath in the west to the river at Devoran in the southeast. The path follows the tracks of the
horse drawn tramways that once hauled ore to the ports.
Surfing is popular on the beaches of west Cornwall. There is always a hardly group of
surfers in the waves in all weather. New quay is the surf capital but there are plenty of good
beaches north towards Padstow and south to St Ives.

If we can agree that government has some roles to play in our lives, then let's at least
make it a positive one. Consider the benefits of free, fully-subsidized public transportation.
First, it will motivate more people to leave their cars at home. Think of the reduction in
pollution and traffic jams and insurance costs due to accidents. Greener cities, safer cities, more
liveable cities. More room for parks and trees. Think of the money we'll all save by consuming

less gas, spending less frequently on car repairs, and so on. That money will stay in our wallets
and we could then turn around and give the economy a boost by spending it on other consumer
goods or services. More jobs.
Secondly, we must consider the health benefits. We'll all walk a little more. This will
reduce visits to doctors' offices and hospitals because we'll be healthier. We'll have improved
blood pressure, lower stress and possibly a better complexion.
In addition, free transportation will encourage us to enjoy the company of our friends and
family. It will become much more feasible to safely drink another glass of wine at the restaurant
or have that extra beer at the family gathering. We'll avoid the worry of getting behind the wheel
with a blood-alcohol level that's above the legal limit. Fewer accidents, fewer tragedies, lower
costs of policing and reduced court backlogs. The increased public expense in transportation
should pay off in the form of reduced health care costs and a safer society.
Then, think about some of the other social benefits: imagine how much we'll learn from
each other when we share rides instead of sitting in isolation in our cars. Talking to the neighbors
might come back into fashion. More people will meet and talk and maybe even help each other.
Having someone else drive us will also give us more time for reading books and
newspapers. So, park your car and use it for your dream vacation.
No more fumbling for change, just hop on and off the streetcar or bus wherever and
whenever you like. What a great idea, especially for those who live in crowded, polluted cities. It
will renew life on our streets.
So I can't agree more with this proposition. Let's go for it!

2012 Film Review
2012 is Roland Emmerich’s film which uses the Mayan calendar and other end-of-days
prophecies for their doomsday scenario. It imagines the world coming to an end in 2012.
2012 film brings off a series of wonders. The movie hits its peak early on. It starts
when Cusack drives a limo through the streets of Los Angeles as freeways and skyscrapers
crumble all around him from the sock of a 10.5 earthquake. The preposterous flying sequence
is equally thrilling. The climax occurs aboard the giant ark when an equipment malfunction
almost threatens the entire mission.
Unfortunately, the crucial sequence is not filmed or edited with the requisite clarity. In
2012 film, Emmerich leaves us befuddled as to exactly what is happening to whom. However,
Emmerich’s 2012 deserves credit for offbeat casting. Cusack supplies his trademark hangdog
charm. McCarthy has perhaps his best role ever as Peet’s cocky. Danny Glover lends dignity to
the role of the tormented president. Chiwetel Ejiofor, as the chief scientist, brings a moving
sense of anguish to a stock role. Platt has fun playing the villain of the piece, and Woody
Harrelson also chews the scenery as a bug-eyed radio prophet trying to warn his listeners about
Armageddon.
All in one, 2012’s cinematography, production design and visual effects are awards-
worthy. Music also propels the movie. It presents American idol runner-up, Adam Lambert,
who provides a rousing anthem over the end credits.

The Death Penalty
The death penalty for serious criminals has become a long discussion among experts. Those
who agree say that the death penalty will scare the criminals off. However, those who disagree say
that the death penalty is inhuman, not an effective way to stop them from doing another crime.
In Switzerland, there is no death penalty. Most people argue that the possibility of making
the wrong decision is always there; although, it is true that spending life behind bars is bad enough.
Every person should have a chance for rehabilitation so that he or she can start all over again his/her
life in a better way.
Those who agree argue that there is no use to give serius criminals another chance to live.
When they get out, they will create a lot of trouble such as blackmailing and killing people. So, who
says that jails will prevent them from being bad guys?
My own opinion is divided. On the one hand, I disagree for the death penalty is against the
human right to live. But on the other hand, whether serious criminals are worthy to live since no one
can guarantee they will never do the bad things in the future.

Angels
Two traveling angels stopped to spend the night in the home of a wealthy family. The family
was rude and refused to let the angels stay in the mansion’s guest room. Instead the angels were
given a space in the cold basement.

Avian Flu Probably was Spread by human.

The Incas used to be a large empire of 990,000 km 2 in Peru of South America. Their city was
high up in the Andes Mountains. They were well-known from their great wealth, especially gold.
This great empire was unfortunately destroyed in an attack by the Spaniards who were searching for
their famed gold. Although this empire existed way back 1493, it was not backward but complex
and well-organized.
The empire was ruled by the Sapa Inca, Lord of the World, Son of the Sun. He owned
everything in the empire – the land, soil, gold and even the people. The people, therefore had no
freedom.
Boys and girls were to live a life of obedience and tradition. They began working in their ayllu
or family groups. The rule was Ama sua, ama Ilulla, ama Sheklla, which menas, “Do not steal, do
not lie, do not be lazy”
Despite this difficult way of life, the Incas were very skillful. They constructed drainage system
and underground water reservoirs. Their buildings were made from huge stones. These were cut to
fit perfectly together so that no mortar was needed. Their rope ridges were so strong that even a
horse could gallop across them!
The Incas had no written language. Information was recorded on knotted strings called quipus.
These were also as calculators. Strong and healthy young boys were chosen as chasquis or couriers
messages from one place to another.

Kendari: On Thursday, a search and rescue team found three more victims from a ship that
sunk in the Banda Sea, who had been missing since the big storm occurred on Friday night last
week. They were Aris Triono, the captain of the cargo ship, Yakub, a crew and Suharno, a

They were found on Thursday floating in water close to Menui island, Central Sulawesi. The
province is adjacent to South Sulawesi, within those territories lies the Banda Sea. Two other
victims were first saved by the SAR team in the Banda Sea on Saturday last week, only a day after

The SAR team is still looking for 10 crew member and a passenger still missing from the

What is thunder and lightening?
Lightening is a sudden, violent flash of electricity between a cloud and the ground, and
between cloud to cloud. A lightening flash, or bolt , can be several miles long. It is so hot, with an

First off all, I would like to thank the organization for giving me the opportunity to say a
few words at this seminar. In this occasion I’d like to speak about abortion. Is abortion one of the
methods of birth control?
To begin with, let me say that abortion is one of the methods of birth control. Let’s see the
fact about the population problem in a country. When a country faces the problem of population
explosion, the government should find method to solve it. But since no method of contraception is
one hundred percent effective and successful, abortion becomes the only way out when prevention
fails.
On the other hand, abortion may cause many negative effects for women’s health. Women
risk their health and lives in bearing the weight of operation and its consequences. The most
common complication is inflammation, interruption of menstrual pattern, infertility, endometriosis,
myoma of the uterus and many other kinds of ovary illness.
So far, abortion becomes a dilemma for countries with large number of citizens. On one
hand, it can control the birth rate but on the other hand it brings terrible consequences especially for
the women’s health.
