Year 8: Images of Place

How do poets create evocative images of place through poetry?


1. What is an evocative image?
an image that brings back strong, memories, or feelings to the mind

3. The five senses are often used to evoke meaning in texts. Using the sense-o-
gram provided below, write a description of the images using each of the
senses.

you would taste the salt of the sea, feel the mist on your skin, hear the
wave crash against the rocks, and see the waves hitting the rocks

and see the item moving

the creaking of tree branches and I see the mist twisting between the
trees towards me
5. I believe I would smell the sweat on my forehead, I would taste the
dryness of my tongue from lack of water, I would feel the aches from
running for hours, I would hear my feet hitting the ground, and I would
see the world turning around me from dehydration
6. I would smell the nature all around, I would taste the morning due, I
would feel the grass I am sitting on, I would hear the water in the
distance, and I would see the water and the trees wave in the wind.
