    2. What are excavations?


    A. i) Excavation is the controlled exploration of what lies below the Earth’s surface.
    Ii) It is usually carried out systematically in trenches with shovels and trowels.

    3. Identify the difference between prehistory and history.


    Prehistory History
    Prehistory is the period when human History is the period when human beings
    beings did not know how to read and write. learnt to read and write and there are

    4. How do paintings help us to learn about history?


    A. I) Paintings shed valuable light on the progress of human civilization.
    ii) These paintings exhibit scenes from the early humans’ daily lives, such as hunting
    scences.
    iii) From these paintings, archaeologists obtain information regarding life in prehistoric
    times.

    5. What are fossils?


    A. I) Fossils are remains of dead plants and animals such as bones that turn into rocks over a
    period of a million years.
