II. Introduction / Company Profile

A. About the Company

José Rizal University was first founded in 1919 as the Far Eastern College

School of Accounts, Commerce, and Finance, with the goal of laying the groundwork

for commercial education. It was a private, nonsectarian, non-stock, non-profit

institution. It was started by Vicente Fabella, the first certified public accountant in

Philippine history. He died not long ago. Later, in 1922, the college's name was changed

to José Rizal College in honor of the dead and well-known Filipino patriot who tried to

educate his fellow citizens about the importance of economic independence and self-

sufficiency through his writings.

The University was established in R. Quiapo, Hidalgo Street, Manila. It offered

both the four-year commerce bachelor's degree program and the high school

curriculum. With the exception of the Japanese occupation of the Philippines during

World War II, when it remained closed in protest despite multiple attempts by the

occupying authorities to open it, it has been offering educational services since 1919.

After the war, in 1945, the university reopened. In 1950, it moved to its current

location in Mandaluyong City, which was then a part of the province of Rizal before

becoming part of Metro Manila, due to the need for larger facilities.

The University was a founding member of the Private Education Retirement

Annuity Association (PERAA) in 1974, the Philippine Association of Personnel

Management in Private Schools (PAPMIPS) in 1997, the Philippine Association of

Colleges and Universities (PACU) in 1932, and the Philippine Association of Collegiate

Schools of Business (PACSB) in 1962.

Throughout its century-long existence, the University has possessed the

exceptional distinction of generating an interesting quantity of accomplished alumni

who have garnered national recognition. A Supreme Court justice, a number of

legislators and cabinet members, a number of ambassadors, at least twenty heads of

banks and financial corporations, a number of heads of educational institutions,

prominent figures in business, trade, agriculture, and industry, and general-rank military

officers are among them. It may legitimately assert that it contributed to the training

and character development of accomplished graduates.

C. Summary/ Takeaways about the lesson learned during the Internship
Program

Being part of MCO even just for a week taught me to be more confident and adapt

some new skills that a tourism should have. It was a great experience for me as a shy

type person and helped me a lot. Some things such as, communication skills,

boosting of self-confidence, promoting, proper dress code of a tourism student and

being a good communicator is the thing that I learned about. In this training, I

applied the JRU Core Values. Rizalians are responsible, courteous, considerate and

have integrity.

D. Establishment’s Strength, Weakness and Recommendation

The Marketing and Communications Office, is one of the universities strengths

when it comes to promoting their brand or school. They help the school to be

advertised to different type of students. Also, most of the staff inside the MCO was

very pleasant and accommodating to us students. Nonetheless, they weren’t easy to

communicate with, because of the schedule workforce of staffs and students.

E. RECOMMENDATIONS
MCO’s being one of the useful departments in our university, they should do

more creative ways that can also enjoy by the students and non-students of JRU for

the promotion of the school. Innovation will help them to advertise the strength and

the things that our university can offer.
