Fluid Statics
Note: Solve any 2 theory questions Last date of submission: 12/10/2023
………………………………………………………………………………………………………

Note: Solve any 2 theory questions

1) Explain the terms- Intensity of pressure and pressure head?

2) Prove that the pressure is the same in all directions at a point in a static fluid?
3) State and prove Pascal’s law and give some examples where this principle is applied.
4) Define the term gauge pressure, vacuum pressure and absolute pressure. Indicate their
relative positions on a chart.
5) Briefly explained the principle employed in the manometer used for the measurement of
pressure.
6) Differentiate between the simple and differential type of manometers.
7) State the advantages of mechanical pressure gauge over the manometers.
8) Explain how vacuum pressure can be measured with the help of u-tube manometers.
9) Describe with a neat sketches a micro-manometer used for vary precise measurement of
small pressure difference between two points.

1) Explain the terms- total pressure and center of pressure?

2) Show that the center of pressure of any lamina immersed under liquid is always below its
centroid.
3) Derive an expression for total pressure and center of pressure for a vertically immersed
surface.
4) Derive an expression for the depth of center of pressure from free surface of liquid of an
inclined plane surface submerged in the liquid.
