Short Vowel A

Decodable Book &

Resources
How to Use This Resource
• There are five books for each short vowel, and each book builds off the other.
• There are a total of 25 decodable books at my TPT store. Be sure to check it out!
• This can be your scope and sequence for the school year!
• Students should learn sight words simultaneously while learning how to decode
and read words with short vowels.
• Each book is meant to be read 2-3 times with your students in small group or one
on one.

Lesson Plan
• The lesson plan at the end of this resource is a helpful guide.
• Each lesson plan has a phonemic awareness warm up activity. Students begin each
lesson by blending, segmenting, or stretching phonemes.
• Next, each lesson has new sight words that should be introduced before the book.
There is at least one activity for the students to complete to help them learn the
new word.
• Students read the book after learning and reviewing sight words.
• Next, students complete one word study activity. There are always four options
listed. Therefore, this lesson plan can be used multiple days, just select a new
word study activity the following day.
