A. GEOGRAPHY
Location and borders

France is located in Western Europe and borders 11 countries. Its borders are:
• South: Spain, Andorra, the Mediterranean Sea and the Cantabrian Sea
• North: Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany, the English Channel and the North Sea
• East: Switzerland, Italy and Monaco
• West: The Atlantic Ocean
Natural resources
France is a country rich in natural resources:
 Coal, Iron, Bauxite, Zinc, Uranium, Antimony, Arsenic, Potash, Feldspars, Fluorite,
Gypsum, Wood, Fishing.
 gold and oil in French Guiana.
 Generates electricity from: Natural gas, Oil and other liquid fuels, Nuclear energy.
Relevant Environmental Situations
France faces several environmental problems, including:
 Pollution :Traffic, industry, heating of homes and companies are the main causes of emissions
into the atmosphere in the city. .
 Climate change, which can cause flooding due to rising seas and increased melting of glaciers. .
Warm winters are wreaking havoc on the agricultural sector.
 Greenhouse gas emissions although reduced by 2.7% in 2022

Type of Government: France is a semi-presential republic, which has a president (head of state
Emmanuel Macron) and a prime minister (head of government responsible for parliament)
The French legal system is based on the separation of powers:
Branches of Power:
• Legislative power: Parliament votes on laws.
• Executive branch: The government executes the laws.
Judicial power: Applies the laws.
The French judicial system is based on written law, French justice uses the Constitution of the
French Fifth Republic of 1958, the Civil Code of 1804, the Penal Code and other legal
provisions, as well as European and international texts.

The Republic on the Move (LREM)
From the center, led by Emmanuel Macron. Its ideologies are socio-liberalism, progressivism,
Europeanism, the third way and liberalism.
• The Republicans (LR)
Center-right, led by François Fillon. Its ideologies are liberalism, conservatism, Christian
democracy and Gaullism.
Democratic Movement (Modem)
From the center, led by François Bayrou. Its ideologies are Christian democracy, social
democracy, socioliberalism and Europeanism.
• Socialist Party (PS)
Center-left, led by François Hollande. Its ideologies are democratic socialism and social
democracy.

C. ECONOMY:
Currency and conversion to Colombian pesos: The official currency is the Euro, the conversion
to Colombian pesos varies according to the market.
On April 12, 2024, 1 Euro is equivalent to $4,069.55 Colombian pesos

Production Lines

The main production lines are:


 Manufacturing: They manufacture a variety of products, from automobiles and
airplanes to chemicals and electronic equipment. Renault, Peugeot, Airbus and
Michelin are examples.
 Agriculture: It is one of the main agricultural producers in Europe. It grows wheat,
corn, grapes (for wine), fruits and vegetables, dairy products, and beef.
 Tourism attracts millions of visitors each year, generating significant income in
hotels, restaurants, transportation and recreational activities.
 Financial services and technology, especially in areas such as artificial intelligence,
biotechnology and clean technologies.

There are many commercial partners around the world, some of the main ones are:

Spain.
