LEARNING ACTIVITY SHEET 1
IV. Instructions:
Perform an experiment to know which substances exhibit the properties of solutions.
o Experiment Procedure
1. Predict which among the given samples will dissolve in water. Write your predictions in
column 2 of Table 1.
2. Put one cup of water in each of the cups.
3. Add ½ teaspoon of each of the six samples. Use the teaspoon to dissolve as much of each
sample as possible. Use a different teaspoon for each of the cups.

Lesson No.: 7 Date:
Lesson Title/ Topic: Amount of solute in a given mass of solvent (percent by mass)
II. Objective(s):
At the end of the lesson, the learners shall be able to:
a. define mass and percent by mass; and
b. calculate the amount of solute in a given mass of solvent (percent by mass)
o Problem Sets
1. A certain player won third place in a game, and received a bronze medal made from
copper and zinc. What is the mass percent of zinc in a bronze medal made by adding
22.5 grams of zinc to 427.5 grams of copper?
2. You were walking along the path walk of the school suddenly found 1 peso coin. The
coin is nickel-plated steel solid solution made by dissolving 1.5 grams of nickel in 4.5
grams of copper. Solve for the mass percent of nickel.
3. A gold medal given to an honor student was a solid solution made from dissolving 11.0
grams of gold in 554.0 grams of silver. What is percent mass of gold in a gold medal of
the student?
o Guide Questions
Science 7 Quarter 1 6
1. Is it possible to calculate amount of solute in a given mass of solvent (percent by mass).
4. What is the importance of knowing to calculate the amount of solute in a given mass of
solvent (percent by mass)?
Problem solving:
Step 1. Identify the given.
Step 4. Substitute the formula by the given data and perform the necessary operation.
V. Extension/Differentiation:
