I. OBJECTIVES To be able to use the model and algebraic methods to find the product of two binomials, product of the sum and difference of two terms and the
square of a binomial.
A. Content Standard The Learners demonstrates understanding of key concepts of algebraic expressions, the properties of real numbers as applied in linear equations, and
inequalities in one variable.
B. Performance Standard The learners is able to model situations using oral, written, graphical, and algebraic methods in solving problems involving algebraic expressions,
linear equations, and inequalities in one variable.

examples/instances of the
new lesson Key Concepts:

•The first term of the product is

always the square of the first term in
the binomial.
•The second term of the product is
always twice the product of the two
terms in the binomial.
•The last term of the product is always
the square of the last term in the
binomial.

Example 1.
Find the product of
(𝑥 + 4)2 .

Solution: Using the special product of

the square of the binomial, we have:
(a + b)^2 = a^2 + 2ab + b^2

Let a = x and b = 4. Substituting these

values, we get:
(𝑥 + 4)2
= 𝑥 2 + 2(x)(4) + 42
= 𝑥 2 + 2(4x) + 42
=𝑥 2 + 8x + 16
