13. The volumes of two similar solid cylinders are 4752 cm3 and 1408 cm3.If the area of
the curved surface of the smaller cylinder is 352 cm2, find the area of the curved

17. Four towns R, T, K and G are such that T is 84km directly to the North of R, and K is
on a bearing of 2950 from R at a distance of 60km. G is on a bearing of 340 0 from K
and a distance of 30km.
(a) Using a scale of 1cm represents 10 km, make an accurate scale drawing to
show the relative positions of the towns. (4mks)

(b) Using the diagram above find;


(i) The distance and bearing of T from G. (3mks)

(ii) The distance and bearing of K from T. (3mks)

18. The figure below shows a cone with water filled as shown.

(a) Calculate the volume of water in the vessel. (2mks)

(b) When a metal hemisphere is completely submerged in the water, the water
level rose by 6cm.

Calculate:

(i) the radius of the new water surface. (2mks)

22. A straight line passing through the points (8,-2) and (4,-4) has its equation in the form
ax + by + c = 0, where a, b and c are integers.

(a) Determine the numerical values of a, b and c. (4mks)

(b) If the line in (a) above cuts the x-axis at point P, determine the coordinates of
P. (2mks)

(c) Another line, which is perpendicular to the line in (a) above passes through
point P and cuts the y axis at Q. Determine the coordinates of point Q.

23. (a) A matatu traveling at 99km/h passes a checkpoint at 9.00am. A police patrol
car traveling at 132km/h in the same direction passes through the police check
point at 9.15am. If the matatu and the police patrol car continue at their
uniform speeds, calculate at what time the police car will overtake the matatu.
(6mks)

(b) Two passenger trains A and B which are 240m apart and travelling at 164km/h
and 88km/h respectively approach one another on a straight railway line.
Train A is 150 m long and train B is 100m long. Determine the time in
seconds that elapses before the two trains completely pass each other.

24. (a) Using a ruler and a pair of compasses only, construct a triangle PQR such that
PQ = 7 cm, QR = 5 cm and angle PQR = 105o. Measure the length PR and the
size of angle QPR. (5mks)

(b) Construct the perpendicular bisectors of the lines PQ and QR, and label their
point of intersection X. (2mks)

(c) With X as the centre and PR as the radius, draw a circle. (1mk)

(d) Calculate the area of the circle drawn in (c) above (2mks)
