Preface

By compiling this paper, the aim is to provide information and knowledge. About
English material for class 11 semester 2. The other purpose of writing a paper entitled
“English Remedial Assignment” is to fulfill my empty English subject assignment with the
guidance of Mr. IG. Kusheri P. M.Pd.
Constructive criticism and suggestions from every reader so that improvements can be
made are highly expected. Hopefully this paper can be useful for students Generally and I
personally in particular. And can meet my empty value.

INTRODUCTION

A. Background Of The Pape


If you are learning English at a college, school or further education institution,
you join approximately one billion other people around the world who are involved in
the same pursuit. However, because you are trying to memorize proper grammar, and
try to avoid the common mistake for students learning English, you might be
wondering why you can learn English in the first place.
Language phys an important role in human life. One seeks to acquire, keam
and use the language as a means of communication, and social as well as a symbol of
humanity. By using the language a person can make statements, convey facts and
knowledge, exphin or report something, and maintaining social relationships between
the users of the language This shows that by using language, people can express their
ideas, feelings, etc. Of information through communication.
In developing countries such as Indonesia, the UK has a vital role in all
aspects of life. Especially in science and technology. Furthermore, it can be used to
develop relationships in international forums, to read English books (especially for
students from elementary school to college/university), to strengthen the relationship
between the nations of the world, etc. As students, we learn English intended to
acquire a variety of knowledge, to understand and comprehend textbooks in English
learning, to acquire knowledge and skills, and ready to go to university, as one of the
requirements of the test for senior high school students ( high School), etc. Given the
critical role of the language in, which is why English is very important to understand
and master by every people around the world since the previous year.
As global or universal language English is not only enables us to communicate
and interact with everyone around the world, but also can change our lives for the
better. In addition, we also have to realize that the western countries played a
remarkable role in developing and maintaining science and technology. So, if we
wanted to be skilled scientists, linguists, and able to compete with other countries in
the world, we have to understand, master and learn their language, namely English.
Lastly, if you study English at school, college or university, remember that
getting an A’in English is almost worthless, in terms of communication, if you can not
speak the language. Spoken English is the best career, the best universities, and is
increasingly being used at job interviews. So like it or not. English is the language
that is very important to learn how to talk.
English is spoken as a first language by around 375 million, as a second
language by many people and as a foreign language by around 750 million. It has
official or special status in at least 70 countries and is being studied by an estimated
one billion people. These figures alone make the English language is important to
learn in tourism, media, internet, business.

d. What is an example sentence?

C. Purpose Of The Paper


a. Knowing the importance of English in the present and the future.
b. Knowing the application or the role of English in everyday life.

THEORY AND DISCUSION

A. Motivation Though Song


1. Definition Of Song
Song is a composition of tone or voice in sequence, combination and
temporal relation to produse a musical composition that has unity and
continuity.

2. Social Function of Song


 To entertain the listeners.
 To teach moral value through the lyrics of the songs
 To provide a way of managing the relationship between our public and
private emotional life
 To express personal feeling and cultural values
 To give someone to not only shares their emotions with others, but also to
have an emotional connection thist just can’t be experienced in any other
way.

3. Generic Structure Of A Song


a. Intro
The introduction establishes melodic, harmonic, and/or rhythmic related to
the main body of song.
b. Verse
It is the section of the song structure that tells the story. This is the
exposition, describing the scene or the person, or an emotion.
c. Chorus of Refrain
A chorus is the most repeated section, so it’s the easiest remembered. A
chorus is the summary of the song’s story.
d. Break
A break is actually a brief “rest” or “pause” for the core melody within a
song used to add further dimension and excitement.
e. Bridge
This is the part of the song that shifts. It can suddenly change tempo, or
volume, or instrumentation.
f. Out tro or Coda
This is the end of the road for the song. It can repeat the intro, chorus or a
refrain as an out tro, or a bridge with an instrumental solo.

4. Language Features A Song


a. Imagery
Imagery is language used by poets, novelists and other writers to create
images in the mind of the reader. Imagery includes figurative and
metaphorical language to improve the reader’s experience through their
senses.
b. Rhyme
Rhyme is a repetition of similar sounds (not letters)
For example:
Well, you done done me and you bet I felt it I tried to be chill but you’re
so hot that I melted
I fell right through the crack Now I’m trying to get back
c. Figures of speech
1) Metaphor, comparing two things that are not alike to suggest that they
actually have something in common.
2) Simile, compares two things using “like” or “as”.
3) Hyperbole, a dramatic language. Big exaggeration, usually with
humor.
4) Personification, an object appear like a person.
5) Allititration, the repetation of the same beginning sound in a series of
words.
Figurative languages are words and expressions used in poems and
songs various meanings and interpretations from the literal meaning
B. It Can Be Explained
1. Definition Explanation Text
An explanation text is a non-fiction text that is used to describe how or why
things happen. It usually includes a sequence of events (explaining how) and
provides reasons for a process or phenomenon (why).
For example:
 Rain
 The water cycle
 Earthquakes

2. Types of Explanation Text


Explanation texts are categorized according to the type of process they
describe.
a) Sequential Explanation
Explanations that describe natural and non-natural phenomena, for
example life cycles.
b) Cause and Effect Explanation
Explanation text that links cause and effect in explaining how and why
an event occurred, for example volcanoes.

3. Structure Of An Explanation Text


a. Social Function
An explanation text is used to describe how or why a certain phenomenon
happens.
b. General Structure
 A title that identifies the topic to be explained.
 An opening statement that identifies the process to be explained.
 A clear order of paragraphs that describe how and why.
 A concluding paragraph that puts all the information together.
 Finally, a visual text (a labeled image).
c. Linguistic Features
 Focuses on general group rather than specific.
 Use of Linking words like in general, rather, for instance.
 Use of action verbs like breaks, erupts. Use of present tense like is,
wake, are.
 Reference to people should not be given.
 Passive voice may be used.
 Use of technical terms and language relevant to the subject.
 Conjunctions should be used to make connections like and, but.
 Gives a detailed description to create a rich meaning.

4. Passive Voice
When emphasis is on the action (verb) and the object of a sentence rather than
the subject of a sentence.
It means that
 Action is more important than the subject.
 Subject is unknown.
 Even when the subject is known, it is put at the end.
Examples
 A letter is written by me.
 America was discovered by Columbus. Macbeth was written by
Shakespeare.
 The door was opened by his son.
 The new ideas were suggested by Edo.
Changes of Pronouns from Active Voice to Passive Voice

Rules for Changing Active Voice to Passive Voice


 Idenify the subject, the verb and the object: SVO.
 Change the object into subject.
 Put the suitable helping verb or auxiliary verb. In case the helping verb
is given, use the same verb but note that the helping verb given agrees
with the object.
 Change the verb into the past participle form.
 Add the preposition “by”.
 Change the subject into object.
Example
Active Voice: The teacher is going to explain the lesson.
Passive Voice: The lesson is going to be explained by the teacher.

Forming Passive Voice


a. Simple Present Tense (S + Am/Is/Are + V3)
Active Voice: she makes the painting.
Passive Voice: the painting is made by her.
b. Present Continuous Tense (S + Am/Is/Are + Being + V3)
Active Voice: Someone is sending the book right now.
Passive voice: The book is being sent right now.
c. Present Perfect Tense (S + Have/Has + Been + V3)
Active Voice: The author has sold the copyrights of the books.
Passive voice: the copyrights of the books have been sold.
d. Simple past tense (S + was/were + V3)
Active Voice: Carl Invited Him.
Passive Voice: He was invited by Carl.
e. Past Continuous Tense (S + Was / Were + Being + V3)
Active Voice: they were washing their bikes while they were
running in the park.
Passive voice: their bikes were being washed while they were
running in the park.
f. Past Perfect Tense (S + Had + Been + V3)
Active Voice : The manager had hired all the employees before the
school started.
Passive Voice: All the employees had been hired before the school
started.
g. Simple Future Tense (S + Will/Shall + BE + V3)
Active Voice: she will sign a contract.
Passive Voice: A Contract will be signed by her.
h. Future Continuous Tense (S + Will/Shall + Be + Being + V3)
Active Voice : They will be building a bridge within the next few
years.
i. Passive Voice: A Bridge will be being built within the next few
years.
j. Future Perfect Tense (S + Will/Shall + Have Been + V3)
Active Voice: the Company will have started the job by the first of
June.
Passive Voice: the job will have been started by the first of June

5. Example Explanation
How Earthquakes Happen
Earthquake is one of the most destroying natural disasters. Unluckily it
often happens in several regions. Recently a horrible earthquake has shaken
West Sumatra. It has brought great damages. Why did it occur? Do you know
how an earthquake happens?
Earthquakes are usually caused when rock underground suddenly
breaks along a fault. This sudden release of energy causes the seismic waves.
It make the ground shake. When two blocks of rock or two plates are rubbing
against each other, they stick a little. They don’t just slide smoothly. The rocks
are still pushing against each other, but not moving. After a while, the rocks
break because of all the pressure that’s built up. When the rocks break, the
earthquake occurs. During the earthquake and afterward, the plates or blocks
of rock start moving, and they continue to move until they get stuck again. The
spot underground where the rock breaks is called the focus of the earthquake.
The place right above the focus is called the epicenter of the earthquake.
Penjelasan:
Paragraf Pertama adalah tentang General Statement (pernyataan
umum). Melihat dari teks tersebut tentu GSnya adalah an Earthquake
happening.
Paragraf kedua: Squenced of explanation adalah penjelasan tentang
bagaimana Earthquake bisa terjadi. Gempa bumi bisa terjadi pada dasarnya
adalah karena “rock underground suddenly breaks along a fault”. Penjelasan
lainnya adalah tentang kronologi how rock underground breaks along a fault.
Paragraf ketiga: closing yang menerangkan bahwa pergeseran lempeng
bumi terus terjadi dan menerangkan bahwa titik di bawah bumi dimana batu
mengalami patahan (where the rock breaks) disebut sebagai Focus of the
eartquake dan tempat di atas titik tersebut disebut epicenter of earthquake.

CONCLUSION

A. Conclusion
English language is referred to as a universal language. That is the language
that is often used to communicate in different countries. The reason why the english
language is used as an international language it’s because historical factor, order of
the language, and the united kingdom itself has more advanced developing era.
Engish holds an important role in the life of the global community. Such as industrial
fields, politics, economics, or art and culture.
English so really important to our life. For example for get a job. As we know
that foreign companies growing a lot in Indonesia, and certainly they opened
opportunity to work in their company especially to the people who can speak in
english. For get entertainment, we also need skill of english language. For watching
movies, listen the songs, read the magazine, etc.
The ability of english speaking communities in Indonesia is still very minimal.
Many of reason underlying the community by indonesia in leaming the english
language, as it is difficult to learn or too complicated, feel that english is not too
important, or for people who are old it’s too late to learn english.

B. Suggest
We are as the writer want to apology for the shortage of this paper. We know
that this paper is still far from perfect. So that we need the suggest from the reader for
the perfection of this paper. Thank you very much for the reader.
