TASK 24-38-51-000-001-A Removal of the Battery

WARNING: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL THIS EQUIPMENT. THIS


EQUIPMENT IS HEAVY (MORE THAN 12 KG (26.5 lb)) AND CAN CAUSE
INJURY AND/OR DAMAGE.

WARNING: BEFORE YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL THE BATTERY, MAKE SURE THAT
CIRCUIT BREAKERS 5PB1, 5PB2, 12PB1 AND 12PB2 ARE OPEN, SAFETIED
AND TAGGED. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THIS INSTRUCTION, A SHORT
CIRCUIT CAN OCCUR. THIS CAN CAUSE INJURY TO MAINTENANCE
PERSONNEL AND/OR DAMAGE TO THE EQUIPMENT.

CAUTION: AIRBUS RECOMMENDS THAT YOU REMOVE THE BATTERY FROM THE
AIRCRAFT BEFORE A MAINTENANCE OR TROUBLESHOOTING
PROCEDURE WHICH IS SCHEDULED FOR MORE THAN 48 HOURS. IF YOU
DO NOT OBEY THIS INSTRUCTION, DAMAGE TO THE BATTERY CAN
OCCUR AND DECREASE THE CHARGE CAPACITY. BEFORE YOU INSTALL
THE BATTERY AGAIN OR A NEW BATTERY FROM THE SHOP, REFER TO
THE APPLICABLE CMM PROCEDURE.

Subtask: 24-38-51-860-051-A

A. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration

(1) Energize the ground service network

(Ref. 24-42-00-861-001).

(2) In the cockpit, on overhead panel 35VU, release these pushbutton switches:

BAT 1

BAT 2.

(3) In the cockpit, on overhead panel 35VU, put the WARNING NOTICE(S) in
position to tell the persons not to operate the batteries.

Subtask: 24-38-51-010-050-A

B. Get access to the avionics compartment.

(1) Put the ACCESS PLATFORM 2M (6 FT) - ADJUSTABLE in position at the


avionics compartment doors 812 and 822.

(2) Open access doors 812 and 822.

(3) Open the access panels of AC/DC emergency power center 106VU and
BATTERY power center 105VU.

Subtask: 24-38-51-865-050-A

C. Open, safety and tag the circuit breaker(s) that follow(s). Use the SAFETY CLIP -
CIRCUIT BREAKER as necessary.

CUT LOCKWIRE. DISCARD LOOSE OR USED LOCKWIRE
IMMEDIATELY. LOOSE OR USED LOCKWIRE CAN CUT YOU OR
MAKE YOU BLIND.

WARNING: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU USE CONSUMABLE MATERIALS.


OBEY THE MATERIAL MANUFACTURER'S INSTRUCTIONS AND
YOUR LOCAL REGULATIONS.
(1) If installed, cut and remove the copper wire between the knurled nut (9) and
the connector (10).

(2) Turn the knurled nut (9) to a quarter turn.

(3) Disconnect the connector (10).

(4) Put the CAP - BLANKING on each disconnected electrical connector and
receptacle.

(5) Loosen the clamp (6) and disconnect the ventilation duct (5) from the battery
(1).

(6) Remove the clamp (6) from the ventilation duct (5).

(7) Put the PLUG - BLANKING in each disconnected line end.

(8) Cut and remove the lockwire from the wing nuts (7).

(9) Loosen the wing nuts (7).

(10) Release the rods (2) that hold the battery (1).

(11) Remove the battery (1).

(12) Put the battery (1) into storage. Obey the battery manufacturer instructions.

B. Removal of the Battery

OBEY THE MATERIAL MANUFACTURER'S INSTRUCTIONS AND
YOUR LOCAL REGULATIONS.
(1) Disconnect the electrical connector (11) as follows:

(a) Cut and discard the copper wire between the knurled nut (10) and the
electrical connector (11).
(b) Turn the knurled nut (10) counterclockwise one quarter of a turn.
(c) Disconnect the electrical connector (11) from the battery (2).
(d) Put the CAP - BLANKING on each disconnected electrical connector
and receptacle.
(e) Safety the electrical connector (11) to the aircraft structure.

(2) Remove the ventilation duct (7) as follows:

(a) Loosen the clamp (6) and disconnect the ventilation duct (7) from the
battery (2).

(b) Remove the clamp (6) from the ventilation duct (7).

(c) Put the PLUG - BLANKING in each disconnected line end.

(d) Safety the ventilation duct (7) to the aircraft structure.

(3) Remove the battery (2) as follows:

(a) Cut and discard the lockwire from the wing nuts (8) and the spacers
(9).

(b) Loosen the wing nuts (8).

(c) Disengage the rods (3) from the slots of the support (1).

(d) Safety the rods (3) to the plate assembly (5).

(e) Remove the support (1) from the battery (2) and retain it for the
subsequent installation.

(f) Remove the battery (2).

(g) Put the battery (2) in a storage. For this obey the battery
manufacturer's instructions.

C. Removal of the Battery

NOTE: The weight of the battery is approximately 28.22 kg (62.2144 lb).

CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT THE ELECTRICAL CONNECTORS ARE CLEAN


BEFORE YOU DISCONNECT OR CONNECT THEM.
CONTAMINATION ON THE ELECTRICAL CONNECTORS CAN
CAUSE DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
(1) Disconnect the electrical connector (13) as follows:

YOU CUT LOCKWIRE. DISCARD LOOSE OR USED
LOCKWIRE IMMEDIATELY. LOOSE OR USED LOCKWIRE
CAN CUT YOU OR MAKE YOU BLIND.
(a) Cut and discard the lockwire between the knurled nut (12) and the
electrical connector (13).
(b) Turn the knurled nut (12) counterclockwise one quarter of a turn.
(c) Disconnect the electrical connector (13) from the battery (2).
(d) Put the CAP - BLANKING on each disconnected electrical connector
and receptacle.
(e) Safety the electrical connector (13) to the aircraft structure.
(2) Disconnect the ventilation duct (7) as follows:

(a) Loosen the clamp (6) and disconnect the ventilation duct (7) from the
battery (2).
(b) Remove the clamp (6) from the ventilation duct (7).
(c) Put the PLUG - BLANKING in the disconnected line end of the
ventilation duct (7).
(d) Safety the ventilation duct (7) to the aircraft structure.
(3) Remove the battery (2) as follows:

COTTER PIN. DISCARD LOOSE OR USED COTTER PINS
IMMEDIATELY. A LOOSE OR USED COTTER PIN CAN CUT
YOU OR MAKE YOU BLIND.
(a) Remove and discard the cotter pins (11) from the rods (4).

YOU CUT LOCKWIRE. DISCARD LOOSE OR USED
LOCKWIRE IMMEDIATELY. LOOSE OR USED LOCKWIRE
CAN CUT YOU OR MAKE YOU BLIND.

(b) Cut and discard the lockwire from the wing nuts (8) and the spacers
(10).
(c) Remove the wing nuts (8), the washers (9) and the spacers (10).
(d) Disengage the rods (4) from the slots of the support (1).
(e) Safety the rods (4) to the plate assembly (5).
(f) Remove the support (1) from the battery (2) and retain it for the
subsequent installation.
(g) Remove the battery (2) from the stops (3).
(h) Put the battery (2) in a storage. For this, obey the battery
manufacturer's instructions.

D. Make sure that there is no electrolyte leakage in the ventilation duct.

NOTE: If there is an electrolyte leakage, remove the duct, clean it and rinse it with
water.

001).

(2) In the cockpit, on overhead panel 35VU, make sure that these pushbutton
switches are released:

BAT 2.

(3) In the cockpit, on overhead panel 35VU, make sure that the WARNING
NOTICE(S) are in position to tell persons not to operate the batteries.

(4) Make sure that the ACCESS PLATFORM 2M (6 FT) - ADJUSTABLE is in


position at the avionics compartment doors 812 and 822.

(5) Make sure that access doors 812 and 822 are open.

(6) Make sure that the access panels of AC/DC emergency power center 106VU
and BATTERY power center 105VU are open.

A. Installation of the Battery

NOTE: The weight of the battery is approximately 26 kg (57 lb).


NOTE: The battery is discharged if there is a new-spare supplier delivery, long-
term storage or transportation.

The servicing of the battery, before the installation on the aircraft, must be
done in the workshop.
(1) Make sure that the shims of the stops (3) are in their correct position on the
plate assembly (4).
(2) Put the battery (1) in position between the stops (3) on the plate assembly
(4).
(3) Put the rods (2) in position on the battery (1).
(4) Make sure that the rods (2) are engaged in the cover assembly slots of the
battery (1).
(5) Make sure that the spacers (8) are in their correct position.
(6) Tighten the wing nuts (7) with your hand until they touch the battery (1). Then
tighten them one quarter of a turn more.
(7) Safety the wing nuts (7) and the spacers (8) with the Material Ref. 14QDB1
Wire-Locking Dia: 0.5 mm (0.020 inch) CRES Nickel Alloy -.
(8) Remove the PLUG - BLANKING from each disconnected line end.
(9) Put the clamp (6) in position on the ventilation duct (5).
(10) Connect the ventilation duct (5) to the battery (1).
(11) Install the clamp (6).
(12) Tighten the clamp (6).
(13) Remove the CAP - BLANKING from each electrical connector and
receptacle.
(14) Make sure that all the electrical connections are clean and in the correct
condition.
(15) Connect the electrical connector (10) to the battery (1).
(16) Turn the knurled nut (9) to one quarter of a turn.
(17) Install the Material Ref. 14QBE1 Wire-Wire shear Dia: 0.4 mm (0.015 inch)
Copper - between the knurled nut (9) and the electrical connector (10) as
follows:

When there is a hole for it, install the wire between the knurled nut (9) and
the electrical connector (10).

When there is no hole, install the wire around the knurled nut (9) and the
electrical connector (10).

B. Installation of the Battery

NOTE: The weight of the battery is approximately 26 kg (57 lb).


NOTE: The battery is discharged if there is a new-spare supplier delivery, long-
term storage or transportation.

The servicing of the battery, before the installation on the aircraft, must be
done in the workshop.
(1) Make sure that the parts retained from the removed component are clean
and in the correct condition.
(2) Do an inspection of the component interfaces and the adjacent area.
(3) Install the battery (2) as follows:

(a) Make sure that the shims of the stops (4) are in their correct position on
the plate assembly (5).
(b) Put the battery (2) in position between the stops (4) on the plate
assembly (5).
(c) Put the support (1) in position on the top of the battery (2).
(d) Put the rods (3) in position and engage them in the slots of the support
(1).
(e) Make sure that the spacers (9) are in position above the slots of the
support (1).
(f) Tighten the wing nuts (8) with your hand until they touch the battery (2).
Then tighten them one quarter of a turn more.
(g) Safety the wing nuts (8) and the spacers (9) with the Material Ref.
14QDC1 Wire-Locking Dia: 0.5 mm (0.020 inch) CRES -.
(4) Install the ventilation connection as follows:

(a) Remove the PLUG - BLANKING from each disconnected line end.
(b) Put the clamp (6) in position on the ventilation duct (7).
(c) Connect the ventilation duct (7) to the battery (2).
(d) Install the clamp (6).
(e) Tighten the clamp (6).
(5) Connect the electrical connector (11) as follows:

(a) Remove the CAP - BLANKING from each electrical connector and
receptacle.
(b) Make sure that all the electrical connections are clean and in the
correct condition.
(c) Connect the electrical connector (11) to the battery (2).
(d) Turn the knurled nut (10) clockwise one quarter of a turn.
(e) Install the Material Ref. 14QBE1 Wire-Wire shear Dia: 0.4 mm (0.015
inch) Copper - between the knurled nut (10) and the electrical
connector (11) as follows:

ESPM/2045930

When there is a hole for it, install the wire between the knurled nut
(10) and the electrical connector (11).

When there is no hole, install the wire around the knurled nut (10)
and the electrical connector (11).

C. Installation of the Battery

NOTE: The weight of the battery is approximately 28.22 kg (62.2144 lb).


NOTE: You can discharge the battery, if there is a new-spare supplier delivery,
long-term storage or transportation.
(1) Make sure that the servicing of the battery is done in the workshop before
the installation on the aircraft.
(2) Make sure that the parts retained from the removed component are clean
and in the correct condition.
(3) Do an inspection of the component interfaces and the adjacent area.
(4) Install the battery (2) as follows:

(a) Make sure that the shims of the stops (3) are in the correct position on
the plate assembly (5).
(b) Put the battery (2) in position between the stops (3) on the plate
assembly (5).
(c) Put the support (1) in position on the top of the battery (2).

(d) Put the rods (4) in position and engage them in the slots of the support
(1).
(e) Install the spacers (10), the washers (9) and the wing nuts (8) on the
rods (4)
(f) Tighten the wing nuts (8) with your hand until they touch the battery (2).
(g) Tighten the wing nuts (8) one quarter of a turn more.

(i) Safety the wing nuts (8) and the spacers (10) with the Material Ref.
14QDC1 Wire-Locking Dia: 0.5 mm (0.020 inch) CRES -.
(5) Connect the ventilation duct (7) as follows:

(a) Remove the blanking plug from the disconnected line end of the
ventilation duct (7).
(b) Put the clamp (6) in position on the ventilation duct (7).
(c) Connect the ventilation duct (7) to the battery (2).
(d) Install and tighten the clamp (6).

CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT THE ELECTRICAL CONNECTORS ARE CLEAN


BEFORE YOU DISCONNECT OR CONNECT THEM.
CONTAMINATION ON THE ELECTRICAL CONNECTORS CAN
CAUSE DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
(6) Connect the electrical connector (13) as follows:

(a) Remove the CAP - BLANKING from each electrical connector and
receptacle.
(b) Make sure that all the electrical connections are clean and in the
correct condition.
(c) Connect the electrical connector (13) to the battery (2).
(d) Turn the knurled nut (12) one quarter of a turn clockwise.
