“Modal verb would”

We use the modal verb “would” to make, accept, or reject an invitation.


Commonly, verbs such as “like” and “prefer” come after “would” to express an invitation.
Examples:
A: Would you like to come to my sister’s wedding?
B: I would love to!
A: Dave, would you prefer to go to the movies?
B: No, I wouldn’t like to watch a movie. I would prefer to go to Starbucks.

Write would or wouldn’t to complete the sentences.

“Modal verb would (request)”
We use “would” followed by a verb, to make a polite request in a formal way, normally
when we need
help.
Example:
Sarah, would you call the bakery?
Tony, would you decorate the room, please?

Request questions
Accepting:
Would you please…? - Sure, no problem.
Would you…? - Of course.
- Yeah, for sure!

Rejecting:
- Sorry, I can’t.
- I’m afraid I can’t help you with that, but I
can… (offer to do
something else)

“Present Continuous for present and future”
We use the Present Continuous tense to talk about very certain plans in the near future.

Example: Next Friday, I’m giving a presentation about the human body.
Jack is having breakfast with Sonia tomorrow morning.

David: Yes, we are.
Ana: Yeah!
David: What is going to be our main course?
Ana: Tacos of course.
Rodrigo: You aren’t sleeping in a few days guys, because we have to land this wonderful
idea.
