(a) Read the narrative below and answer the questions that follow.

On a very hot day, a man was taking home a bundle of firewood on his shoulder.
He became very tired and on seeing a tree, he decided to rest in its shade. He
propped the bundle of firewood against the tree trunk. Under the tree, was a woman
who had laid her baby on the grass . He greeted her and proceeded to sit on the grass
to rest.

After some time, another man who was on his way from the market and was leading
a goat, found them at that place. He too decided to rest under the tree. He tethered
the goat to the tree and sat to rest. Soon, he was lost in his own thoughts. The man
with the goat was preparing to leave when another man came. He had a dog and was
carrying a spear, probably from a hunting expedition. When the dog saw the goat, it
ran towards it. Startled, the goat jumped up and down, since it was still tethered to
the tree. In the process, the goat tripped on the firewood. The firewood
unfortunately fell on the baby, killing it instantly. The woman did not know who to
blame for the death of her child.

4
“You have killed my child!” she wailed to no one in particular.

“It’s the firewood to blame!” said the man who owned the dog.

“No! It is the goat!” the firewood owner protested.

Since they could not decide what to do, they all went to the chief to seek a solution.
After listening to the case, he gave his verdict. He ordered that the goat be
slaughtered and the bundle of firewood be used to roast the meet. The meat would
be served and the dog would eat the bones. This is what happened. The dog was
given the bones after everyone else had eaten. To this day, the dog is condemned to
eating bones after others have enjoyed the meat.
