According to Debarthi Chowdhury,Every human with the operation of everyday domestic works
produces solid waste for disposal. The growth of solid waste in urban areas has outpaced the
population growth in recent years. As the town or city expands, average per capita waste
generates also increase.Thus, the author conducted this study and took a weighted overlay
analysis method to identify what kind of factors affects the generation of solid wastes and the
types as well as the sources of solid wastes and for Understanding of environmental and health
issues related to solid waste in Siliguri and to propose fruitful recommendations to improve the
system.The author collect the data both from primary and secondary sources. The study
emphasizes the importance of solid waste management in promoting a sustainable environment,
emphasizing the need for eco-friendly segregation, proper disposal, and effective transport
arrangements, and prioritizing its full implementation in all 47 wards of Siliguri municipality.

According to the researchers, the basic aim of this study is to Identify the issues regarding
minimum zero waste , for Developing the awareness and responsibilities for both consumers
and product manufacturers and to focus on the domestic composting system and rag picking
service and to spread the awareness about the importance and the necessity of better waste
management .Emphasize waste segregation and management due to changing waste
composition patterns. Conduct surveys on generation and characterization of solid waste,
analyze large samples for statistical reliability.Sampling analysis was conducted in selected
wards of zone 1 in Kanpur city, focusing on characterization and quantification of biodegradable,
non-biodegradable, and moisture content in solid waste samples.In conclusion the author
discussed that the Rapid urbanization and population growth in Kanpur generate massive MSW,
causing challenges in proper management due to inadequate resources, infrastructure, and
technological capabilities.Stakeholders should support door-to-door collection systems through
awareness, motivation, and commitment campaigns. Implement secondary disposal sites or
transfer stations based on socioeconomic factors for improved storage practices.
