COURSE CONTENT
Introduction to Computers: Evolution, classification and features of modern Computers.
Functional components of computers: Input, output, storage, processing and
Communication).
Hardware: Input devices; text, audio, video, image; Output devices; VDUs, Printers; CPU,
Memory, Auxiliary storage devices;
Basic Computer Organization; Motherboard, BIOS, Device Controllers, Device drivers;
Kinds of Software: Proprietary software verses freeware, genuine software, and counterfeit
Software.
System Software: Operating systems; generations of Operating Systems, Types of current
Operating Systems; Customizing the main computer settings, managing files and folders, using
system utilities such
as disk scan, disk defragmenters, archivers, text editors, command prompt;
Application Software: types of application software.
Computer networks: Types of networks, network topologies, components of a computer
network.
Computer Security: Malware, Antivirus software;
Word Processors: Editing a Document, Text formatting, Paragraph formatting, Page Formatting,
Styles, Headers and Footers, Working with Graphics, Tables, Lists, Mail merging, Table of
Contents.
Spreadsheets: Build worksheets, Enhance worksheets, Create charts and share information,
Create, sort, and filter, Use problem solving tools, Use auditing tools, Summarize data with data
analysis, PivotTables, and PivotCharts, Import and export data from other applications.
Presentation Processor: Different views of slides, working with slides, Manipulating content on
slides. Working with multimedia on slides; text, images, graphics, videoOperating System: Hands
on experience with a typical operating system.
