Liking or falling in love with what one does is happiness, but doing what one likes is
freedom. As ironic as it may sound, I lost myself in service to others in society and, in the
process, ended up finding my life, passion, and happiness—the unexplainable joy of bringing
change and light to other people’s lives. I have a degree in social work and did my internship at a
housing agency as a supportive housing specialist, where I helped families and individuals
maintain their housing and assisted them with their activities of daily living. The onset of
COVID-19 came at a critical time in my profession, and since the pandemic is present, I have
continued to work as a caregiver for approximately 3 years. The experience gained in this

Through these experiences, I have gained a deeper awareness of healthcare inequities and have
the well-being of communities. I plan to use my leadership and service experiences as I move

in healthcare settings as I make the move to nursing. My goal is to become an advocate for
marginalized groups by tackling health inequalities and striving for fair and equal access to high-
