ACCADEMIA TEATRO ALLA SCALA

The Accademia Teatro alla Scala, The Accademia Teatro alla Scala presided by
Victor Massiah and managed by Luisa Vinci, as private foundation today is an
institution universally recognized as among the best for the training in
performing arts.
A unique experience in Europe, through its four departments - Music, Ballet,
Stage-workshops, Management - and a Didactical Area, it covers all the
professional profiles tied to musical theater, availing itself with teachers who
represent the finest experts from the Scala and pertinent fields. There are
students from all over the world, ranging in age from 6 to 30, who every year
work hard to embody excellence, not only in the artistic realm, but also in
technical and managerial matters: opera singers, musicians, chorus singers,
assistant conductors, piano accompaniers, dancers, set designers, hair and
makeup artists, lighting designers, carpenters, stage technicians, sound
technicians, set photographers and managers. The teaching approach of the
institution is based on the direct engagement with the internships, concerts,
shows and exhibitions. In addition, there is the annual “Academy Project”, part
of the calendar of the Teatro itself. Through these appointments the students
are challenged at a national and international level. In the past few years, the
Accademia has increased international performances of its student body in
well-known theaters as well as festivals. To which are also to be added the
international activity carried out by the Cultural Cooperation Section.
Ever since it was first constituted, the Accademia has considered it a priority
to maintain an international outlook and, with European Community funding,
to develop valuable projects based on research and cultural cooperation with
European and non-European theatrical institutions.

PICCOLO TEATRO DI MILANO

The Piccolo Teatro was established on the 14 May 1947 by Giorgio Strehler,
Paolo Grassi and Nina Vinchi. It was the first public theater to be built in Italy,
and the most popular on the national and international scene.

The vision of the founders was to create an institution, supported by the

central government and by local authorities (the Municipality and the Province
of Milan, the Region of Lombardy), as a public service essential for the
wellbeing of its citizens. The slogan that accompanied the birth of the Piccolo
Teatro was “un Teatro d’Arte per Tutti” (“An Arts Theater for Everyone”) and
this phrase still sums up the theater’s mission today: to stage quality shows for
the broadest possible audience. Since 1991, the Piccolo Teatro di Milano is also
a “Teatro d’Europa” (Theater of Europe).

In over sixty-seven years of activity, the Piccolo Teatro has produced more
than 300 shows (200 of which directed by Strehler). Since 1998, with the
changeover to Sergio Escobar and Luca Ronconi, the Piccolo has expanded its
international and interdisciplinary dimension, proposing itself as the ideal
cultural center for the city and for Europe. At the Piccolo Teatro, dance, prose,
festivals, film screenings, round tables and in-depth meetings on cultural

ALUMNI NETWORK

Your entry into the POLIMI Graduate School of Management and Accademia
Teatro alla Scala communities begins upon your arrival and continues after
your graduation, when you join the POLIMI GSoM alumni network, which has
over 18,000 graduates, and the larger Politecnico di Milano community, with
more than 210,000 members, including over 35,000 graduates from the
School of Management, as well as the Accademia Teatro alla Scala alumni
network.

The School's Alumni Engagement Team is constantly working to provide the

entire community of former students with opportunities for meeting and
exchanging their skills and experience. All this is with a view to feeding and
nurturing a cohesive community: a successful career is, in fact, the result of a
unique fusion of exceptional skills and expertise, as well as constant
professional development and a network of valuable, high-quality contacts,
which is built precisely through being part of the community.

Community engagement is based on three main pillars, which are: shaping

purposeful careers, leading through connections and igniting the future.
As for the first of these, the School partners with our alumni through
professional and personal development programmes designed for all those
who aspire to be Purposeful Innovators and to generate a positive impact on
society. The services include the Purposeful Coaching path, aimed at
supporting alumni in building meaningful careers guided by a clear and
defined Purpose, and the Professional Development – Training Catalogue,
dedicated to strengthening the knowledge and the application of career

management skills useful for building sustainable careers.

As for the second, our Alumni Clubs – which you will be able to join – should
be mentioned. Created to bring together people who share an interest or a
professional goal, they allow alumni – and also students – to meet, share
experiences and stay in contact with the School. Each of our Clubs – Business
& Digital Transformation, Consulting, Corporate Innovation, Entrepreneurship,
Finance Innovation, Football, Healthcare & Life Sciences, LeadHERship –
Empowering Women in Business, MBA, Project Management, Sailing, Supply
Chain Management & Logistics and Wine Tech – creates a strong sense of
belonging. Finally, let’s not forget Shape the Future, the Global Alumni
Conference organised by and for the Alumni Community to celebrate the
accomplishments that shape the future of innovation, entrepreneurship and
sustainability.

Moreover, you’ll also be able to subscribe, both online and via app, to ALUMNI
Accademia La Scala: a lively, dynamic space that hosts a community of young
talents who have entrusted their futures to one of Europe’s leading
educational institutes in the performing arts. Pursuing their studies at the
same institute, Academy alumni have shared unique experiences in the
classrooms, behind the scenes, and on stage at Teatro alla Scala, learning,
assimilating and mastering a particular way of living and doing theatre. They
are young people who have nurtured their passion through hard work and
determination, transforming it into a profession. Now, backed by a wealth of
skills, competencies, and knowledge, they have become true maestri of the La
Scala method, its ambassadors to the world.

Alumni La Scala was formed so that this heritage of experiences and

knowledge can be strengthened and expanded through constant new input.
The majority of the content are organized into specific sections, allowing the
alumni to continue their professional growth and stay abreast of the latest
developments: job opportunities (job platform), professional and personal
exchange (networking), invitations to exclusive events (events), exclusive
learning opportunities (lifelong learning), mentoring for the youngest alumni
by acclaimed former students (mentorship), and a section where they can
present their own projects to the community (incubator).

The platform is also open to companies and institutions involved in cultural

promotion, the performing arts, advertising, or events. These include not only
those having longstanding collaborative relationships with the Academy, but
also the many different organizations looking for professional figures with a
solid background in culture and the performing arts, a guarantee offered by
the La Scala Academy. Companies and institutions can post job offers and

promote their events and projects in a specifically dedicated section. These

are additional opportunities for encounters within the community and for
bringing new vitality and dynamism to Alumni Accademia La Scala.

The coursework work, but not only that, it allows students to compare the renowned entities in
the area with international ones. The courses provide a theoretical basis, but
thanks to group projects, which turn out to be the most interesting challenge,
it is possible to concretely apply the concepts learned. What also makes the
Master's program stimulating is the convergence of multiple cultures and
diverse backgrounds, which are united by a common passion for the
performing arts.

LETIZIA MUSELLA During my master's program in Performing Arts Management, I found the
experience of being in class truly remarkable. What made it so special was the
chance to connect with classmates of different nationalities, each bringing
their unique backgrounds and perspectives into our learning environment.
The class Working with this diverse group was not just educational but also incredibly
enriching. It was like taking a journey through the global tapestry of the
performing arts. Hearing about their cultural approaches to arts management
was eye-opening and often led to fascinating discussions and insights.
What made this experience even more special was the relationships formed. I
wasn't just building a network; I was forging friendships that would last a
lifetime. These connections have proven to be a vital part of my career,
offering support, collaboration, and a constant source of inspiration.

GIACOMO NIOLA Being an intern in the Production Department of Teatro alla Scala allowed me
to discover what it truly means to be inside the engine and heart of a large-
scale Theatre. It gave me the opportunity to collaborate with every
Internship, Production Department department, therefore making me see the invisible lines of how everything is
at Teatro alla Scala dynamically connected. It has been an extremely stimulating experience that
added fuel to my interest towards the Production area of the Performing Arts.

AXEL VAUDEY My 5-month internship at the Metropolitan Opera in the Marketing &
Communications department, was absolutely incredible. I got to dive into a
variety of tasks, like helping with sales and promotional marketing, managing
Internship, Metropolitan Opera front house communications, creating social media content, and organizing
House, New York City public events. Despite the massive staff of around 3,000 people, they really
make you feel part of the team. I got to join different meetings, discuss with
other departments and I was mostly encouraged to share my thoughts,
suggestions, and ideas. And I have to admit, being able to attend some
performances and Met opera productions in that amazing theater was a
fantastic perk!
