Position Paper

Committee: - United Nations Security Council

Country: - Republic Of Türkiye
Agenda: - Addressing the Humanitarian Crisis: Examining the Impact of Recent
Israeli Airstrikes in Gaza and the Path to Peace

Introduction:
The Republic of Turkey is gravely concerned about the deepening humanitarian
crisis in Gaza, driven by the recent escalation of hostilities and the intensification
of Israeli airstrikes. As a country with a long-standing commitment to the
Palestinian cause and an advocate for international justice, Turkey finds the
ongoing violence and human suffering untenable. Addressing this crisis requires
immediate action from the international community to provide relief to civilians,
hold parties accountable under international law, and pave the way for a
sustainable and just peace that recognizes the rights and dignity of all
individuals involved.
Humanitarian Impact of Israeli Airstrikes:
The airstrikes have caused widespread devastation in Gaza, leading to significant
civilian casualties, the destruction of essential infrastructure, and worsening
access to basic needs such as food, water, and medical care. Turkey strongly
condemns the disproportionate use of force and the targeting of civilian areas,
which violate international humanitarian law.
Turkey calls for an immediate end to the Israeli blockade of Gaza, which has
compounded the crisis and deprived Palestinians of essential goods and services.
The international community must ensure the swift delivery of humanitarian aid
and establish secure corridors for relief efforts.
Turkey’s Role in Humanitarian Assistance:
Turkey has long been at the forefront of providing humanitarian assistance to the
Palestinian people, particularly in Gaza. Through its agencies, including the
Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA), Turkey has delivered
significant amounts of aid, ranging from medical supplies to food, water, and
sanitation assistance. Turkey remains committed to increasing its support and
urges other nations to strengthen humanitarian efforts.
Turkey’s Diplomatic Position:
Turkey has consistently advocated for the inclusion of all Palestinian factions,
including Hamas, in the peace process. As an elected representative of a
significant portion of the Palestinian population, Hamas cannot be excluded from
negotiations. Turkey acknowledges the importance of non-violent resistance but
also recognizes the Palestinians' right to self-defence under international law. The
solution to the conflict lies not in further militarization but in dialogue, diplomacy,
and mutual recognition of rights.

Path to Peace:
Turkey reaffirms its support for a two-state solution, with East Jerusalem as the
capital of a sovereign Palestinian state, based on the 1967 borders. A lasting
peace must address the root causes of the conflict, including settlement
expansion, the blockade, and violations of international law. Immediate
ceasefires and confidence-building measures are essential to restore trust and
move towards negotiations.

In a speech at the United Nations General Assembly, our government reiterated

their harsh criticism on Israel over its military campaign in the Gaza strip and on
the Western countries for their support to Israel. "Along with children in Gaza, the
United Nations system is also dying, the truth is dying, the values that the West
claims to defend are dying, the hopes of humanity to live in a fairer world are
dying one by one," Our President said.
Turkey also emphasizes the need for regional and international actors to engage
in the peace process. All Palestinian factions, including Hamas, should be
included in these efforts to ensure that all voices are represented.
Conclusion:
The Republic of Turkey calls upon the international community to act urgently to
address the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza and to take decisive steps
toward achieving a just and lasting peace. The recent Israeli airstrikes have
exacerbated an already dire situation, and without immediate international
intervention, the suffering of the Palestinian people will only intensify. Turkey
reaffirms its commitment to supporting the Palestinians in their quest for justice,
dignity, and self-determination and stands ready to contribute to efforts that
promote peace, security, and stability in the region.
