POSITION PAPER

Committee: United Nations Security Council

Country: Argentine Republic
Topic: Geopolitical Tension in the Middle East and Humanitarian Crisis in Gaza
Delegate Name: Kirubiel Kefyalew

The geopolitical tensions in the Middle East have reached a critical juncture,
particularly with the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza. The region has long
been embroiled in conflict, primarily due to historical grievances, territorial
disputes, and ideological rifts. Recent escalations in violence, such as the
military confrontations between Israel and Hamas, have intensified the
humanitarian needs of the Palestinian population. According to the United
Nations, over 2 million people in Gaza are in dire need of assistance, with more
than 1.4 million civilians displaced as a result of recent hostilities. Additionally,
factors such as economic blockades, limited access to essential services, and
international political dynamics have exacerbated the humanitarian crisis.
Understanding this complex backdrop is essential for devising effective
strategies to address the urgent needs of the population while fostering long-
term peace and stability in the region.

Argentina firmly believes that a sustainable solution to the geopolitical tensions

in the Middle East, particularly the situation in Gaza, requires a multi-faceted
approach that prioritizes diplomacy and humanitarian aid. Our nation advocates
for the protection of civilians in conflict zones and endorses the principle of
international law regarding human rights. Argentina has consistently supported
United Nations resolutions aimed at promoting peace in the Middle East,
underlining our commitment to a two-state solution that recognizes both Israeli
and Palestinian rights to exist in peace and security.

In recent years, our leaders—including President Javier Milei—have emphasized

the need for innovative diplomatic engagement and stronger humanitarian
support for the affected populations. Argentina's call for immediate ceasefires
and negotiations has been echoed in various international forums, showcasing
our dedication to facilitating dialogue among conflicting parties. We uphold the
belief that humanitarian aid should be delivered unimpeded to civilians in need
and that the international community must unite in its efforts to alleviate
suffering and protect human dignity.

To effectively tackle the pressing issues of geopolitical tension and the

humanitarian crisis in Gaza, Argentina proposes the following solutions:

 Immediate Humanitarian Ceasefire: Urge all parties to agree to a

ceasefire that allows unhindered humanitarian access to Gaza. This will
enable relief organizations to deliver essential food, water, and medical
supplies to the civilian population.
 Increased Humanitarian Aid: Mobilize international resources to
provide comprehensive humanitarian assistance. This could involve
coordinated funding efforts through UN agencies and NGOs aimed at
rebuilding infrastructure and providing medical services.
 Diplomatic Initiatives: Establish a multilateral dialogue platform
involving key stakeholders from the Middle East, including representatives
from Israel, Palestine, and regional powers. This platform should focus on
fostering trust, addressing legitimate grievances, and working towards a
sustainable peace agreement.
 Peacekeeping Missions: Advocate for a potential UN peacekeeping
mission in the region, with a focus on protecting civilians, monitoring
ceasefire agreements, and ensuring the delivery of humanitarian aid.

These solutions are not only actionable but also essential for alleviating the
immediate suffering of civilians and creating space for meaningful negotiations.
By implementing these strategies, we believe that we can significantly impact
the humanitarian situation in Gaza, foster regional stability, and promote a
collaborative international approach to resolving the longstanding conflicts in
the Middle East
