1. The ac bridge shown in Fig. 1 is known as a Maxwell bridge and is used for accurate
measurement of inductance and resistance of a coil in terms of a standard capacitance Cs.
Show that when the bridge is balanced,

Find Lx and Rx for R1 = 40 k Ω , R2 = 1.6 k Ω, R3 = 4 k Ω and Cs = 0.45 µF.

8. (a) One cycle of a periodic voltage waveform is depicted in Fig. 8(a). Find the
effective value of the voltage. Note that the cycle starts at t = 0 and ends at t = 6 s.

9. For the entire circuit in Fig. 9, calculate:
(a) the power factor
(b) the average power delivered by the source
(c) the reactive power
(d) the apparent power
(e) the complex power

10. A 110-V rms, 60-Hz source is applied to a load impedance Z. The apparent power
entering the load is 120 VA at a power factor of 0.707 lagging.
(a) Calculate the complex power.
(b) Find the rms current supplied to the load.
(c) Determine Z.
(d) Assuming Z= R+jωL that find the values of R and L.
