TUT -1 ( EO-201)

1. In the network shown (Figure 2), a steady state is reached with the switch K open with V =
100 V , R1 = 10 ohm,R2 = 20 ohm, R3 = 20 ohm, L = 1 H, and C = 1 micro − farad. At me t =
0, the switch is closed.
(a) Write the differential equations for the network after the switch is closed.
(b) What is the voltage V0 across C before the switch closed? What is its polarity?
(c) Solve for the initial value of i1 (t = 0+) and i2 (t = 0+).

2. In the circuit of, determine:

(a) iR(0+), iL(0+), ic(0+)
(b) diR(0+)/dt, diL(0+)/dt, dic(0+)/dt
(c) iR(∞), iL(∞), ic(∞)

3. The differential equation that describes the voltage in an RLC network is

𝑑 𝑖 𝑑𝑖
+ 4 + 10𝑖 = 0
𝑑𝑡 𝑑𝑡
If i(0)=1, di(0)/dt=2. Find i(t) for t>0 and plot the same. Determine the type of damping
exhibited by the circuit.

4. A ramp function can be defined as r(t)=t u(t) and parabolic function can be defined as
p(t)= u(t). If the Laplace transform of r(t) is then, find the Laplace transform of p(t).

5. For each of the following function determine one sided Laplace transform.
(a) 𝑒 𝑐𝑜𝑠 8𝑡𝑢(𝑡)
(b) ∫ 12𝑒 𝑑𝑡

6. In the network of fig 𝑖 = 𝐼 𝑒 𝑠𝑖𝑛3𝑡 𝑢(𝑡). The impedance of the passive network N is
found to be
2𝑠 + 3𝑠 + 5𝑠 + 5𝑠 + 1
𝑍(𝑠) =
(𝑠 + 1)(2𝑠 + 2𝑠 + 4)
With N connected to the current source as in fig. What will be the complex frequencies in
the voltage v1(t).
