ACTIVITY 2
Communication is simply the transfer of information from one person to another, or group to
another. Effective communication is a process of exchanging ideas, thoughts, knowledge and information
in such a way as to fulfill the purpose or intent in the best possible way. In other terms, it is nothing more
than the sender’s expression of views in a way that the recipient understands best (Al-Saht, 2020).
The various studies have noted that there were differences between communication in online
environment and in face-to-face environment. The online communication happened to exchange
information through online; fostering a sense of community in online classes that make the students’
learning experience more meaningful and it can help them stay connected during the course life.
Communicating with students in an online environment requires a little more thought and planning than
communicating with students in the traditional environment because the online environment lacks body
language (Kinash et al., 2017).
The communication between Bucas Grande Foundation College (BGFC) instructors and students
have been affected when the covid-19 pandemic occurred wherein there was temporary prohibition on
face-to-face learning delivery which involves effective communication between instructor and students.
For, face-to-face learning delivery offers effective communication through teaching and learning in a
specific environment called classroom. Hence, communication between instructors and students has the
ability to improve the learning experience and to create a positive setup especially when there is face-to-
face communication (Summers, 2020). Such, communication is crucial in delivering learning and
information (Al-Saht, 2020).
Thus, this study aimed to explore whether online learning has an effect on communication
between instructors and students in a negative or positive way, whether online learning affects students’
productivity levels and to evaluate and suggest ways of improving effective online communication
between instructors and students.
