    Catalogue Description
    Prerequisite: course not available for freshmen students. This course uses semiotics to explore
    ten contemporary British theatrical productions. Students will learn to identify linguistic, visual,
    and aural communication systems found within aspects of stage productions. Students will also
    research British theatrical traditions, theatre companies, and historic theatrical venues.
    The 19 day course includes a roundtrip airfare to London and back to Los Angeles, two week
    tube (underground) pass for London, morning meals (full English breakfasts), ten theatrical
    productions in London and Stratford Upon Avon, 4 star hotels in Stratford and London, and
    coaches (private buses) to escort group from airport to hotels and back to the airport upon
    leaving England. The course also includes a one-day class prior to leaving and ten course sessions
    in London.
    Fee: approximately $5,000.00 3 credits.
    Course Goals, Objectives and Content
    1. To develop a process for analyzing the strengths and weaknesses of a live theatrical
    production.
    2. To learn to experience a live theatrical production as a vital training tool for personal growth
    as a professional in the arts.
    3. To develop skills necessary to produce written critiques of live theatrical productions.
    4. To introduce students to the vibrancy and diversity of London and its professional theatre.
    5. To develop a healthy, enriching, and rewarding personal relationship to international travel.
    6. To learn to travel as an ambassador of our school, our country, and our profession.
    Text
    The primary text for the trip is the collection of ten theatre productions in London and Stratford
    Upon Avon. The student will also be expected to purchase a London guidebook.
    Assignments

    Assignments will include:


    1) A QUIZ ON THE LONDON UNDERGROUND (The Tube)
    2) ATTENDANCE- is mandatory at all classes and productions
    3. JOURNAL- a journal will be kept for the class based on personal reactions to the trip,
    London, Stratford, and the productions.
    4. A RESEARCH PAPER DUE ON OR BEFORE THE DAY WE LEAVE FOR LONDON5. CLASS PRESENTATION
    6. CLASS PARTICIPATION
    7. GUIDEBOOK QUIZ
    8. ANNOTATED TIMELINE OF LONDON THEATRE HISTORY
    9. MOVIE REVIEW- A two-page movie paper about a film set in London. Watch the film and
    write about the visual and aural signs you perceive that lets you know the location is Londonhow does it look or sound different from America? We will build off this idea of signs that
    illuminate culture in our first class in England.
