CICM - Congregatio Immaculati Cordis Mariae / Congregation of the
Immaculate Heart of Mary
The University of Saint Louis traces its roots from a school started by
Msgr. Constant Jurgens, CICM, D.D., a Dutch by nationality, was a CICM
missionary, great educator and then Bishop of the Diocese of Tuguegarao.
University of Saint Louis is a globally competent CICM Catholic Educational
Institution that forms persons of character, conscience, compassion, with
national pride, sense of mission, and passion nurtured by the Louisian
culture of excellence.
The University of Saint Louis upholds the philosophy that education is for building of
self and persons for the Church and the Society. Wisdom builds. To these ends, the
following are the core values of University of Saint Louis; integral in the formation of
every member of the Louisian community.

Congregation of the Immaculate Heart of Mary)
 NOVEMBER 28, 1862

 CICM was established by Fr. Theophile Verbist in Scheut, Belgium
 CICM is an instrument of the church in proclaiming the Good News of Jesus.
Approved by Cardinals in Belgium members of the congregation were called,
“Scheut Father” or “Scheutists”
 OCTOBER 25, 1860

 Treaty of Peking was signed opened the gates of Imperial China to the
missionary work of the Catholic Church. “Belgian Mission in China” – taking
care of the abandoned Chinese children

To proclaim the Good News in China,
