Organize the project browser

Assign browser organization and create custom


organization with a project parameter.

o View setup and control for architectural


design

1. Open the exercise file Browser-


organization.rvt.

2. Review the Project Browser and
organization of views. Select Views
(all) at the top of the Project Browser.
In the Properties palette, in the Type
Selector, select Type/Discipline.

3. Note the Project Browser is now


grouped by view types and then
discipline.

4. Select the Floor 2 plan view in the
Project Browser. In the Properties
palette, change the Discipline
parameter to Electrical. Note in the
Project Browser that Floor 2 is now in
the Electrical group.

5. Select Views (Type/Discipline) at the


top of the Project Browser. In the
Properties palette, in the Type Selector,
select Discipline. Note the browser is
now grouped by discipline and then
view types.

6. Select Views (Discipline) at the top of
the Project Browser. In the Properties
palette, in the Type Selector, select All.
In the Project Browser, expand the
Elevations (Interior) group and note
the blue icons that indicate a view has
been placed on a sheet.

7. Select Views (All) at the top of the


Project Browser. In the Properties
palette, in the Type Selector, select Not
on Sheets. Note the views placed on
sheets are not visible in the Project
Browser and can only be accessed from
the Sheets group.

8. In the Manage tab, Settings panel, click
the Project Parameters button. In the
Project Parameters dialog, click the
New Parameter button.

9. In the Parameter Properties dialog,


type in the name Browser Group. Set
the Type of Parameter option to Text
and the Group Parameter Under option
to Identity Data. In the Category Name
Search field, type View and then select
View in the category list. Click OK to
create the parameter.

10. Leave the Browser Group value blank
and click OK to the Parameter Value
message. Click OK to close the Project
Parameters dialog.

11. Select the Floor 2 Circulation Core plan


view in the Project Browser. Then
select the Browser Group parameter in
the Properties palette. Select the
Circulation Core plans for floors 1, 2, 3,
and 4 (press and hold Ctrl on the
keyboard to do this). In the Properties
palette, type in Detail Views in the
Browser Group parameter value.

12. Select the Setting Out plans for floors
2, 3, and 4 (press and hold Ctrl on the
keyboard to do this). In the Properties
palette, type in Detail Views in the
Browser Group parameter value.

13. In the View tab, Windows panel, select


User Interface > Browser Organization.

14. In the Browser Organization dialog,
click the New button, type in the name
Browser Group, and click OK.

15. In the Grouping and Sorting tab, set


the Group By option to Browser Group
and the Then by option to Family and
Type. Click OK to create the Browser
Organization type.

16. Select the Browser Group scheme and
click OK to close the Browser
Organization dialog.

17. In the Project Browser, expand the


Detail Views group and Floor Plans
subgroup. Note the Circulation and
Setting Out plan views are here.
Expand the ??? group and note the
other views are here. This is because
their Browser Group parameter has no
value assigned.

18. Expand the Floor Plans subgroup under
???. Then select the Room Layout plans
for floors 1, 2, 3, and 4. In the
Properties palette, type in Interior
Views for the Browser Group parameter
value. Note the views are now in the
Interior Views group in the Project
Browser.

19. Expand the Elevations (Interior) sub-


group under ??? and select all the
views in this group. In the Properties
palette, type in Interior Views for the
Browser Group parameter value. Note
the views are now in the Interior Views
group in the Project Browser.

20. Close all of the groups in the Project
Browser. At the top of the Project
Browser, right-click on Views (Browser
Group) and choose Search.

21. Type in Meeting room in the Find


search box. Click Next to search
through the Project Browser.

22. Note the Project Browser group


expands to highlight the first view
listed containing Meeting Room in its
name. Click Next to step through the
views in the browser, including Sheet
views. Click Previous to step back to
the Meeting Room – d elevation view.
Click Close. Note the view is selected
and its properties can be edited in the
Properties palette
