CHAPTER 7 WAVE OPTICS

5 Plane wavefront of light of wavelength 5500 Å is incident on two slits in a screen
perpendicular to the direction of light rays. If the total separation of 10 bright fringes
on a screen 2 m away is 2 cm, find the distance between the slits.
6 In a biprism experiment, the fringes are observed in the focal plane of the eyepiece
at a distance of 1.2 m from the slits. The distance between the central bright band and
the 20th bright band is 0.4 cm. When a convex lens is placed between the biprism and
the eyepiece, 90 cm from the eyepiece, the distance between the two virtual magnified
images is found to be 0.9 cm. Determine the wavelength of light used.

CHAPTER 8 ELECTROSTATIC

1 Obtain an expression for equivalent capacity for combination of three capacitor


connected in series.

the plates.
4 A parallel plate capacitor has an area of 4 cm2 and a plate separation
of 2 mm.Calculate its capacitance
5 Two charged particles having equal charge of 3 ×10-5 C each are brought from
infinity to a separation of 30 cm. Find the increase in electrostatic potential energy
during the process.
6 Two charges of magnitude 5 nC and 2 nC are placed at points (2 cm, 0, 0) and (20cm,
0, 0) in a region of space, where there is no other external field. Find the electrostatic
potential energy of the system.
7 A small particle carrying a negative charge of 1.6 × 10-19 C is suspended in
equilibrium between two horizontal metal plates 10 cm apart having a potential
difference of 4000 V across them. Find the mass of the charged particle.
8 The length of a straight thin wire is 2 m. It is uniformly charged with a positive
charge of 3μC. Calculate
(i) the charge density of the wire
(ii) the electric intensity due to the wire at a point 1.5 m away from the center of the
wire.

an external resistance of 5 ohm. Find the current through the external resistance.
7 The emf of a cell is balanced by a length of 120 cm of potentiometer wire. When the
cell is shunted by a resistance of 10 ohm the balancing length is reduced by 20cm.
Find the internal resistance of the cell.
8 A galvanometer has a resistance of 25 ohm and its full scale deflection current is 25
μA. What resistance should be added to it to have a range of 0 -10 V?
9 Describe how MCG is converted into -
a) Voltmeter
b) Ammeter

CHAPTER 10 Magnetic Fields due to Electric Current

1 Calculate the value of magnetic field at a distance of 2 cm from a very long straight
wire carrying a current of 5 A (Given: μo= 4 π x 10-7 Wb/Am).
2 Current of equal magnitude flows through two long parallel wires having separation
of 1.35 cm. If the force per unit length on each of the wires in 4.76 x 10-2 N, what
must be I ?
3 Magnetic field at a distance 2.4 cm from a long straight wire is 16 μT. What must be
current through the wire?
4 The magnetic field at the centre of a circular current carrying loop of radius
12.3 cm is 6.4 x 10-6 T. What will be the magnetic moment of the loop?
5 Draw a neat labelled diagram of suspended type moving coil galvanometer.

to a 120 V, 50 Hz AC source.

(i) impedance of the circuit at resonance

(iii) resonant frequency
4 A 100 ohm resistor is connected to a 220V rms, 50Hz supply
(i) What is the rms value of current in the circuit?
(ii) What is the net power consumed over a full cycle?
5 State Characteristics of series resonance circuit and parallel resonance circuit.
