Executive summary
My six-week internship at Bank Makramah Ltd. in Pakistan is summed up in this report. The primary goal
of an internship is to gain experience working in a real-world setting and using academic theory to address
problems in the actual world. There are three sections in the report.First, it gives a synopsis and introduction
of Bank Makramah Ltd. It is an Islamic bank in Pakistan that was formerly known as Bank Makramah. It is
a division of Suroor Investment, an investment company with its headquarters in Mauritius. The bank has
193 branches nationwide and operates from its headquarters in Islamabad and Karachi. In line with the
amalgamation plan of the State Bank of Pakistan, Arif Habib Securities Limited purchased the Pakistani
operations of Bank Makramah Ltd. Incorporated in Mauritius, Suroor Investment Limited was formed in
2007.The bank's services and goods are covered in the second section, along with the several kinds of
accounts it offers, including term, savings, and current deposits. It also lists the four primary divisions of the
bank: cash, clearing, remittance, and account opening.
The third and final section focuses on the responsibilities I was given during my internship and goes into
great length to explain each of these four areas. My participation in each department allowed me to obtain
useful knowledge and real-world experience. The environment of the bank, employee conduct, the
competitive landscape, and internal and external variables influencing the bank are all discussed in the report.
The bank's strength and weaknesses are shown by a SWOT analysis. It is critical that the bank recognize
these flaws and work together to find effective solutions.

Introduction of industry
The financial sector is essential to an economy's smooth operation. By directing funds toward the real
economy, it promotes capital development and eases financial transactions. A stable and robust financial
system is a necessary condition for economic growth. Banking is main source of financial sector. The word
Bank comes from the French term “Banque” which means bench, office or institution for the keeping, lending
and exchanging money. A bank is a type of financial institution that lends money to the government, private
citizens, or businesses, earning interest on the difference between the loans and the amount borrowed. Banks
lend and borrow money with interest. Banks are categorized based on the type of business they conduct.
Financial service providers, both bank and non-bank, make up Pakistan's financial sector. Commercial banks,
Islamic banks, specialized banks, and microfinance banks are examples of banking intermediates;
development finance organizations, non-bank financial institutions, and insurance firms are examples of non-
bank intermediaries. At December 31, 2017, the total assets of the financial sector made up 75% of the GDP.
The top organizations in charge of overseeing the financial system are the Securities and Exchange
Commission of Pakistan (SECP) and the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP). The banking industry holds a
prominent position in the financial sector. It represents up to 55 percent of GDP and roughly 74 percent of
the assets of the financial industry.
Thirty-two domestic commercial banks, five foreign banks, five public sector banks, and four specialized
banks made up Pakistan's 34 bank total as of March 31, 2018. There are around 16,000 branches in the branch
network, which is dispersed throughout the nation. The branch-licensing policy was recently updated by SBP,
with an emphasis on improving financial outreach to underbanked areas.
Moreover, new modes for banking businesses have been introduced including Sales & Service Centers and
Mobile Banking Units. The notion of a digital branch has also developed, and as a test project, one has been
constructed at the Institute of Business Administration (IBA), Karachi.
Banking industry is also facing disruptions from rapid technological advancements. SBP has always
acknowledged the value of technology and has released a number of guidelines including frameworks for
Internet banking security, payment system designation, and enterprise technology governance and risk
management, prevention against cyber-attack, Risk Management in Outsourcing Arrangements by Financial
Institutions, etc. With the current issues and new developments in mind, SBP has created a thorough action
plan. i.e. the SBP Vision 2020. To accomplish SBP's mandate of supporting a stable and dynamic financial
system, the plan's strategic aims place a strong emphasis on strengthening the entire financial stability regime
and enhancing the efficiency, effectiveness, and fairness of the banking sector.

Learning Experience
As I work in Bank Makramah for about weeks I have learned many things like managing clients and help
them in every possible way. Like I said in my first week experience I was on recipients desk I have to manage
customers that need help for fill the deposits slips. Interact with different people was hard step for me because
as a bank employee I have to give them good behavior and services. Also, as weeks goes on difficulties had
come and I have mange all of them through the studies I have done in university. Like preparing financial
statements, transferring fund, collecting data, making repost etc.
As working in bank I have learned many things like among the regions are Opening, running, and maintaining
current PLS savings, PLS term deposit, call deposit, and other accounts; paying and collecting checks—
possible legal ramifications; remittances and collections; cash department operations; safe custody & safe
deposit lockers; pension payment services; currency chest management; government receipts and payments;
Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) Collections; branch accounts; branch returns; interbranch reconciliations;
Hajj services; ATM operations; branch HR Functions; dead stock; stationery; vouchers; filing and record
management; branch internal controls and compliance; handling internal audit. All these skills I have learned
came from the studies I have done in university like auditing and direct and indirect taxes, investment
management, computerized accounting many more.
In Bank I have observed different attitude according to the situations of work. The behavior of HR was good
with them he helped me in every possible way to make for better future. He helped me to make reports or
how to collect data of customers how to add data in computer. He also helps to make progress report etc.
Also, the behavior of other employees in office is good with them. They helped me in every situation of
difficulty of accounting, dealing with clients etc. In bank hard work is essential because there is no time to
rest as many clients come for our services. That is the main factor of bank because you have to deal with
many peoples and have to face their attitude with humble and care. In these past weeks I have learned many
things and gained many knowledges of modern world. In financial sector every one worried about there
money and you have to treat them with respect because you are the servant of these people. Because of these
people you get paid and make your livings.
There is one particular challenge that I have face during my training was to convince clients to buy our
different packages partnerships Profit & Loss Saving Account, Daily product account, Hamara Family saving
account, Asan saving account, young bee account. But through knowledge, skills and help from bank
employees I have gotten through these tasks.
SWOT Analysis
Strengths:
Its staff members are quite skilled. Creating and supplying the greatest innovative products is BML Bank's
specialty. For every account, it offers free internet access as well as free pay orders.
Bank has expanded its branch network at a quick pace. The bank needs to get better. Operating effectiveness
compared to earlier times. The bank's outstanding management is the reason for the staff's pleasant and
helpful attitude.
Weakness:
Employees are overloaded with the work because of a smaller number of Employees Banks make
less advertisement of its new products. As BML bank is merger of three banks so this mixture
causes management and hierarchy issues. All three banks use different banking software it’s
difficult to keep banks on a Single track. They have less branch network compared to other banks.
Opportunities:
They have advancement in mobile banking and internet banking. They have advanced of IBFT
(internet banking fund transfer) They can grow its market fast. Spreading out of banks in different
countries. They also provide ATM’s it all the cities other than branches. Banks provide job and
internship opportunities as well. They can extend the number of branches in Pakistan. BML
Threats:
There are large size and volume of competitors who have large CAR ratio. Large number of
competitors in the banking market and huge competition because of large number of private banks.
-Banks management is involved in centralization of branches, for the sake of Bank is not able to
Bank should emphasis on Research and Development (R&D), Management Information System (MIS) and
introduces structural reforms in the organization. As bank is a result of merger of three banks so bank should
minimize the time of replenishment of bank & should centralize all systems, procedures and Operations on
priority bases and try to hit new horizons in financial region of the world. As currently bank is suffering from
loss, so bank should mobilize its deposits and make a balance in its deposits and loan ratio.
Bank should start advertisement through TV, radio and with business Papers.
Bank should provide proper and on time benefits, incentives, promotions, and Increments
The daily newspapers and journals should be provided to the employees and customers
visiting there.
Under no circumstance’s cheques book should be given if the account formalities should by
complete.
In order to encourage staff, wages and pay should to be equal with those of elite banks.
Conclusion
My internship experience at Bank Makramah Pakistan has been both enriching and fulfilling. Over the course
of 6 weeks, I have had the opportunity to gain valuable insights into the operations and functions of a leading
financial institution in Pakistan. During my time at the bank, I was exposed to various departments and tasks,
including [Filling deposits slip, opening account, managing lockers, clearing cheques, Making reports,
handling ATM cash, term depositing etc.]. These experiences have not only allowed me to apply theoretical
knowledge gained from my academic studies but have also provided me with practical skills that will be
invaluable as I progress in my career in the banking sector. Moreover, the guidance and mentorship provided
by the bank's staff have played a crucial role in my professional development. The support and encouragement
I received from my supervisors and colleagues, is exceptional. As I reflect on my internship experience, I am
confident that the knowledge and skills acquired during this period will serve as a solid foundation for my
future endeavors in the banking industry. I am excited about the prospect of applying what I have learned to
contribute positively to the growth and success of any organization I may join in the future. My sincere
